mozPod: Sync Thunderbird and Sunbird Contacts To iPod
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Portable Audio / Video, Software,
mozPod is a project to bring iPod synchronization to Mozilla products such as Thunderbird and Sunbird. mozPod version 0.1 was just released yesterday, and so far it seems to be working very nicely with Thunderbird. Of course, the download is free, and the software works with iPods using the latest software. This one works great on both Macs and PCs.

Sometimes we just need a laugh, and when that times comes, we can normally turn to good ‘ol George Dubya to provide it. Now, we are taking this one with a grain of salt, but over at the Washington Post George apparently thinks the iPod is just great. In fact, the button that allows you to advance to the next song when you are tired of the current one is magical to him:
Bush: And if you don’t like it, you have got your little advance button. It’s pretty high-tech stuff.
Come to think of it, it is pretty amazing.

Okay, Christmas has come and gone for most, and instead of holiday wish lists people are starting to narrow down their New Year’s resolutions. One of the largest each year is to give up smoking. Now, if you need another excuse to pick up yet another gadget, why not grab one that tries to guilt you straight to smoking cessation? The Cigarette Counter is a simple iTop-ish device that hooks to the top of your cigarette pack which you use to track the number of cigarettes you are smoking. After a while, you look at the number on the LCD and begin to feel so horrible that you quit. Does it work? We dunno - but you can pick one up for $5.25.

The Wall Street Journal has yet another great front-page article on one of the pitfalls of the videogame industry - the transition period that comes about every five years.
It came in 2001 and it’s hitting again now as the Xbox 360 launched. As new hardware is released, consumers save their money to purchase a new videogame machine. Of course console shortages can limit the number of consumers that receive new videogame machines immediately. Just as the PS2 had a severe shortage in 2000, the Xbox 360 is in very short supply now.

There aren’t any numbered rankings to be found - so you don’t have a ‘#1 game’ to agree or disagree with, but we feel they’ve done a top-notch job with the feature, and that it’s certainly worth checking out.

We gotta hand it to Microsoft - these guys have been doing a great job trying to make their Xbox Live service about much more than just gaming. Forming a community can be tough, but it looks like they are on the right path. The latest method of infiltration by the Xbox team is the Xbox Live Diamond program. Basically, anyone who is an Xbox Live Gold subscriber (purchased in at least a 1-year increment) is eligible to sign up for free. In return, you get a card emblazoned with your Gamertag which will give you discounts in retail stores. Not too bad, as this was unexpected, and is a value add to an already stellar service.
