UPDATE: A second worker has now died as a result of his injuries. Of the eight others injured, one is currently listed as critical and four are considered serious.

An accident at France’s Stade Vélodrome has forced the cancellation of Madonna‘s upcoming concert.

Earlier today, workers in Marseilles constructing a set for the Sticky & Sweet tour. For reasons unknown, the roof collapsed and fell on several workers. Of the seven injured, one was killed while two others were listed in serious condition.

Madonna had been rehearsing in Italy at the time of the accident. A statement from the singer was later posted on her website:

“I am devastated to have just received this tragicnews. My prayers go out to those who were injured and their Families along with my deepest sympathy to all those affected by this heartbreaking news.”

The France concert was originally scheduled to take place on Sunday.
