Ben Stiller Confirms Zoolander Sequel Details

Ben Stiller as ZoolanderBen Stiller has confirmed Zoolander 2 will be set 10 years after the original film and in Europe.

The 45-year-old actor, who starred as male model Derek Zoolander in the 2001 comedy movie about a group of fashionistas taking on an evil businessman, reveals the script has been completed for the sequel and "a lot has happened" since the first film, with Derek and Owen Wilson's character Hansel no longer relevant on the fashion scene.

Where it's at is we've completed the script, Justin Theroux and I, and handed it into the studio. Now the studio has the script and we're at that point where we're waiting to see what they want to do. It's ten years later and most of it is set in Europe. I don't want to give away too much, but it's basically Derek and Hansel ten years later - though the last movie ended on a happy note a lot of things have happened in the meantime. Their lives have changed and they're not really relevant anymore. It's a new world for them."

Zoolander Sequel Script Finished

Despite some delays, reports say that the has been completed. The plot focuses on Derek Zoolander and Hansel (played by Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson, respectively) on the brink of turning 40, and their top modeling days behind them.

will also reprise his role (yes!) as evil designer Mugatu, who tried to use Zoolander in his evil assassination plot in the first film. Actor Jonah Hill has also been given a role, and we’re delighted with the development. Ferrell, Stiller, Wilson and Hill in the same flick? It just doesn’t get funnier than that.

Zoolander 2 should be in theaters in 2012. The real trick is figuring out how to wait that long!

Paramount has now axed Zoolander 2, a follow-up to Stiller’s hilarious comedy about male modeling, as well as Ferrell’s Anchorman 2, which would have revisited one of his best characters. According to a recent Twitter from Stiller: “Ron Burgundy and Derek Zoolander looking to appear in sequels. Both men destitute, without means or intellect to fund their own comebacks.”

Meanwhile, the second G.I. Joe movie is expected to hit theaters as early as 2012. Paramount hasn’t committed to a script or anything else on the project, but rumor states the company is fully behind the planned sequel.
