Charlton Heston Passes Away at 84

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Celeb News, Obituaries,

Charlton HestonLegendary screen actor Charlton Heston passed away this evening at his Beverly Hills home.  Heston was 84.

Since his film debut in the 1940’s, the winner eventually took on many legendary characters during his long career.  Perhaps his two most notable roles were in 1956’s The Ten Commandments (still played every Easter on television) and 1959’s Ben Hur.  It was for the latter film that he received his Oscar for Best Actor.

Charlton may also be remembered for two organizations he helped lead.  In addition to being a former president of the , he was widely known for his years as president of the National Rifle Association.

Although no cause of death has been released, Heston did reveal back in 2002 that he was starting to display symptoms similar to those seen from Alzheimers patients.  At the time of his death, his spouse of 64 years, Lydia, was by his side.

This Week on HD DVD and Blu-ray: January 15, 2008

The Ten HD DVDAlright, yes—this article should have been written yesterday. But despite my lack of punctuality, I’ve decided to go ahead and post it anyway as part of a New Year’s resolution to write more. And this is a slow time for film in general, so I think I deserve a reprieve.

To be perfectly honest, little jumps out at me this week. We have the hilarious, slightly esoteric The Ten, helmed by some The State alumni and starring, well, just about everyone. Is there anything else worth mentioning? Could Girls Gone Wild: Baby Bash—Live and Uncensored be the best Blu-ray title this week? That seems a bit sad, doesn’t it? Don’t worry, HD DVD patrons—if you were looking for some girl-on-girl action, hold out until February 12th when it releases in your format.

I can’t wait for these sluggish few weeks to pass.

Check out the full list of high-def releases after the jump.

‘The 13th Disciple’ Imagines Jesus’ Twin

Wooden CrossFrom The Ten Commandments (with ) to Passion of the Christ, Biblical movies are a long-standing Hollywood tradition. And right now is the perfect season to start thinking about Jesus Christ, right?

(a German movie-maker) will put a whole new twist on the age-old hero – he’s going to give Jesus an evil twin brother. Remember the movie where the Man of Steel had to face himself? Okay, imagine that…only in a really Bible-like way.

, to be set in modern India, focuses on two German archaeologists. Their mission? To determine whether or not Jesus ever visited the country.  During their quest, the twin archaeologists discover that Christ, too, had a twin—an evil one who has been reincarnated into the present-day.

Christ himself will not be a character in the flick, and the filmmakers say they do not intend to convey any sort of religious message with the fictional film.
