Actor Roy Scheider Dies

Roy Scheider - the man partially responsible for making people fear the ocean - passed away Sunday afternoon.

The star, best known for his role in 1975’s , had been suffering for years from multiple myeloma. His wife says Scheider’s death was a result of complications stemming from a staph infection.

Although the actor will always be linked to the classic Spielberg film (and its unfortunate sequel), he also earned Oscar-nominations for parts in two other films:  1971’s The French Connection and 1979’s All That Jazz.

Scheider was 75 years old.
