Edward Norton Not Keen on Superhero Movies

Edward NortonEdward Norton has no desire to star in superhero movies like The Avengers.

The 42-year-old actor missed out on reprising his role as The Hulk/Bruce Banner in this year's Marvel movie for "personal and professional" reasons, but he isn't bothered about appearing in any future incarnations of the franchise, or similar films.

"I couldn't do it for a variety of reasons - personal and professional. I had a blast doing The Hulk. I don't mean to sound snotty but I don't aspire to spend that much time in my life doing those types of films. I have a lot of other things I want to do."

While the Fight Club actor is keen to distance himself from such fantasy films, he is disappointed that film studios have become reluctant to make "more thoughtful" movies for adults. "Studios aren't as willing to make mid-budget, more thoughtful films aimed at adults. It's more challenging to get those films made than it was. There's been a shift from people buying DVDs to streaming them online. The studios have been asleep at the switch and suffered a huge loss of revenue from falling DVD sales. Unfortunately, that revenue was often what helped convince them to make films which aren't blockbusters," he added.

Mark Ruffalo Felt Pressure Playing The Hulk

Mark Ruffalo as Bruce BannerMark Ruffalo felt "pressure" portraying The Hulk in The Avengers.

The 44-year-old actor took on the role of the green monster for the first time in the superhero movie, but he was nervous about following in the footsteps of "great artists" Edward Norton and Eric Bana, who previously played the part in 2008's The Incredible Hulk and 2003 movie Hulk respectively.

"Yeah there was pressure, I was definitely aware of the great artists who came before and did it and I knew I had a responsibility to get the part right and do it justice," he said.

Despite feeling anxious about portraying The Hulk, Mark believes he was "born to play the part" because he thinks the green monster was the "coolest" comic book character. Speaking at the European Premiere of The Avengers at Westfield London's Vue Cinema Thursday night, he added, "I was born to play the part. When I was a kid I most identified with The Hulk and I was a big fan of his and out of any of the comic book characters he was the one I thought was the coolest."

The Avengers hits theaters on May 4.

Mark Ruffalo’s Superhero Costume Problems

Mark Ruffalo as Bruce BannerMark Ruffalo felt like an "a******" wearing a leotard while shooting The Avengers.

The Kids Are All Right actor plays Bruce Banner/The Hulk in the forthcoming Marvel movie, and while he didn't mind losing weight for the role he was embarrassed wearing a small body suit.

"I did a cleanse that was like hell. I lost 21 pounds and I've kept about 15 off. I quite like it - it's good to be a little trimmer. I felt like such an a****** wearing The Hulk's little leotard though. When they were designing it, I was like, 'How about adding a codpiece?', 'Some ass pads?' It's not very flattering."

However, he is excited he is now playing the opposite to his usual nice guy roles: "They say you always play the opposite of yourself the best, so I must be b*****d! I'm interested in the people you might write off immediately, but can then be surprised by. I get that a lot about myself."
