Despite what we were telling ourselves, we all knew that this was inevitable upon the release of GI Joe: Rise of Cobra: the Barbie live-action movie.

Can you believe we’ve made it fifty years without seeing her on the big screen? Yeah, me either.

So who’s the lucky studio who is bringing her to the silver screen?

Universal Pictures has secured (or been cursed with?) the rights to make a live-action, feature film of the iconic doll: “Barbie may be the most popular girl in the world. We’re grateful to Mattel for entrusting us with this extraordinary opportunity,” Universal Pictures chairman Marc Shmuger told the entertainment publication.

Julie & Julia’s producer Laurence Mark will head the production.

There’s no word yet as to which reincarnation of Barbie (a.k.a. Barbara Millicent Roberts) we can expect to see.
