Casting Corner: Julie Christie, Kevin Bacon and More

Julie Christie

Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:

Julie Christie: The Away from Her star and Gary Oldman are both in talks to join The Girl With the Red Riding Hood, a “gothic” adaptation of the classic tale. Amanda Seyfried has already been cast in the Catherine Hardwicke-directed film as the woman who is terrorized by a werewolf in a medieval village. Christie would play Seyfried’s grandmother while Oldman hunts down the animal. Max Irons and Shiloh Fernandez will co-star.

Helen Mirren: This is one sentence I never thought I would write: Helen Mirren may work alongside Russell Brand in an upcoming remake of Arthur. Yes, the Oscar winner is considering taking on a version of the character John Gielgud originated. (She would be Brand’s longtime nanny, not a valet.) Filming should begin in July.

Hayley Atwell: The Brideshead Revisited actress will be the one starring opposite Chris Evans (Steve Rogers/Captain America) as the love interest in The First Avenger: Captain America. Gossip Girl‘s Sebastian Stan has also been recruited for the sidekick role of Bucky Barnes in the July 2011 release.

Rachel Weisz: Director/producer Darren Aronofsky didn’t have to go far to find the lead of his new movie. The Wrestler filmmaker has chosen his British-born fiancee to front Jackie, a biopic about former First Lady Jackie Kennedy. The movie will focus on the days immediately after the assassination of her husband, President John F. Kennedy. Noah Oppenheim penned the script.

Kevin Bacon: The Taking Chance actor is teaming up with Steve Carell, Julianne Moore, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone for an as-yet-untitled project. The movie centers around a married couple (Carrell and Moore) who are on the brink of divorce. Gosling has been cast as Steve’s life coach while Kevin gets to have an affair with Julianne, his co-worker.
