Bullock Makes History with The Blind Side

The Blind Side posterWhile Avatar was busy passing the $1 billion mark, history was being made at a much smaller level.

Over the weekend, football drama crossed the $200 million line on the domestic charts. While that is not an uncommon figure for movies these days, it is for films that have a female stars holding the reins.

Not even Julia Roberts with Erin Brockovich ($125.6 million) or Pretty Woman ($178.4 million) has equaled Bullock’s achievement. Meanwhile, has only helped The Devil Wears Prada raise $124.7 million. International blockbuster Mamma Mia! only earned $144.1 million domestically.

The Blind Side is, of course, just one of Sandra’s high points from last year. Bullock’s work on that Warner Bros. film and on The Proposal made her Hollywood’s Top Star of 2009.
