Alexa Chung Recommends Quality Clothes

Alexa ChungAlexa Chung recommends investing in expensive items of clothing.

The model-turned-TV presenter - whose unique sense of style has seen her voted one of the world's most fashionable women - says it's important to splash out on a few quality pieces as they will never go out of fashion.

"My ultimate style tip is to invest in pieces that will see you through a good few seasons - I definitely think it's worth spending a bit more on clothes you'll wear time and time again."

Although she is into fashion now, Alexa, 27, insists it hasn't always been that way: "When I was younger, I didn't really care that much about clothes, to be honest. I used to live in cowboy boots and denim skirts, and I wore a lot of my brother's clothes! The highlight of my youth was seeing Vivienne Westwood's wedding dress on The Clothes Show. People say I've got geek-chic style, but I don't try to be geeky! I think I look cool. I'm short-sighted, so I have to wear glasses. My style generally is preppy and tomboyish - I never wear anything too sexy."

Jessica Szohr Wants Taylor Momsen’s Clothes

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, News,

Taylor Momsen, Penn Badgley, and Jessica SzohrJessica Szohr wishes she could swap her style with —her character’s, that is.

The star - who plays Vanessa Abrams in the hit series - admits while she likes the clothes her character is given in the show, she would love to wear the “girly” pieces Taylor’s character Jenny gets to fashion.

“I personally think Jenny has the best wardrobe on the show - it’s kind of grungy, but girly, without being too put together.”

The brunette beauty - who has been dating her Gossip Girl co-star since 2008 - admitted while she thinks her character wears too many contrasting patterns and colors, she thinks all the girls in the show look “great.”

“Blair is too structured and perfect, Serena is always glammed up. Vanessa’s way too much with every color and pattern. It sounds like I’m being negative about them all, but I’m not - I think they all look great. But if I was going to go shopping for me, I’d head straight into Jenny’s closet.”

Isabella Blow Wardrobe For Sale

Alexander McQueen and Isabella BlowThe wardrobe of late fashion icon Isabella Blow is to be put up for auction. The stunning collection of clothes includes over 90 outfits by her close friend - who committed suicide in February - 50 hats by Philip Treacy and many beautiful Manolo Blahnik shoes and all items will go under the hammer at London auction house Christie’s later this year.

Patricia Frost, director of Fashion and Textiles at Christie’s, told the New York Times, “What we have is unique. It shows that McQueen really deserves his place in fashion history and that Isabella was there before anyone else, she saw what was good so far ahead of the game.”

The sale, from the Blow estate and on behalf of her family, will be held on September 15. Blow - who killed herself in May 2007 after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer - was widely credited with discovering McQueen as a young designer, helping him on the way to his global success. However, McQueen was forced to deny rumors there was a rift between the pair at the time of her tragic death.

Items Du Jour: Olsens Look to London, Zac Looks to Paris, and Rodarte on Daytime TV

Lady Gaga in Calvin Klein- At last night’s big Belvedere Pink Grapefruit event in New York, Ashley Olsen revealed that a certain city across the pond will be the inspiration for the pair’s next Olsenboye collection. That’s nice and all, but I’d really appreciate if they’d concentrate on getting the line out of JCPenney.

- While it may not be London who calls for Zac Posen, Paris has caught the American designer’s eye. Posen, who has been unhappy with how New York critics have treated him during fashion week debuts, says that he wants to show in the city of love because “they understand my clothes.”

- With a slew of dark looks lately, Lady Gaga performed at the Rainforest Fund’s 21st Birthday Celebration in an all-white custom Calvin Klein creation. She even wore a light gray wig to match!

- As her younger sister Georgia Jagger steams up the latest Chanel ads, model Elizabeth Jagger is contemplating full-on nude spreads now that she’s getting older. Has she seen Helena Christensen and Claudia Schiffer lately?

- There’s a new bag in town, and it’s called the Schitbag. If only I made these things up. I’m almost tempted to buy it simply to tout the fact that I have a fashionable schitbag.

Audrey Hepburn’s Expensive Clothes

Audrey HepburnAudrey Hepburn’s designer clothes collection sold at auction for over $400,000.

A set of 36 items belonging to the actress went up for sale in London’s La Galleria this past week, including a cocktail dress worn by the screen legend in the film How to Steal a Million - which raised $97,000.

Tanja Star-Busmann - who had been friends with Audrey from the age of 15 - revealed the actress was always a fan of passing her unwanted clothes on. She wrote in the auction guide:

“Over the years a cavalcade of boxes filled to the brim with haute-couture evening dresses, divine little cocktail ensembles, easy-to-wear silk supper dresses, sensible tweed coats, chic little day suits and glamorous dressing gowns, often accompanied by wonderful accessories, arrived at my door. Unpacking them was always like Christmas a thousand times over.”

The pricey cocktail dress was not the only item to sell well. A luxurious black silk gown which belonged to the late actress - who died in 1993 - sold for $27,000, and an exquisite wedding dress went under the hammer for $22,000. In 2007, a cocktail dress worn by the legendary actress in Breakfast at Tiffany’s sold for almost $162,600.

Marie Helvin Still Searching for Perfect Shirt

Marie HelvinMarie Helvin still can’t find the perfect white shirt.

The 57-year-old model - who was a regular on the catwalk and in fashion magazines during the 70s and 80s - has never been able to find a style of shirt which fits her properly despite owning a huge collection of designer clothes.

“I am constantly searching for the perfect white shirt. At my age, I can’t wear all these short, tight things anymore. I’d look ridiculous. I like a plain white shirt, a black A-line skirt and some nice shoes. And that’s it.”

Marie - who has worked for designers such as Yves Saint Laurent, Versace and Valentino - is due to auction off her old wardrobe with upmarket vintage clothing experts Kerry Taylor in London next week. The collection will go under the hammer at the same time as the late screen icon Audrey Hepburn’s clothes.

However, Marie is not sad to see her outfits go up for sale: “I can’t even get a finger into them now!”

Marie - who was previously married to famed photographer David Bailey - previously said she wanted to get rid of her old designer gowns because she didn’t think it was appropriate for her to wear them anymore. “Kate Moss will probably snap them up for Topshop. Hah! But you know, I don’t think it’s appropriate to dress too sexily at my age. Anyway, I can’t get into them any more,” she said.

Blake Lively Dresses Like Her Gossip Girl

Blake Lively shops like her Gossip Girl characterBlake Lively has a very similar dress sense to her character on Gossip Girl—is that surprising to anyone?

The actress, who plays socialite Serena van der Woodsen on the hit CW show, says she likes to wear the same outfits as alter-ego: “I dress just like Serena! I own half her wardrobe, so it’s far too similar to the way I dress.”

Blake, 22, is currently dating actor Penn Badgley, who plays Serena’s former boyfriend Dan Humphrey on the show.

Although she shares the same taste in men and clothes, Blake insists she and her character are not that similar: “I feel ridiculous at times with her - because I’m, you know, killing someone or marrying someone on Gossip Girl, but I look like me. I’m like, ‘Oh, this is absurd.’”

Her boyfriend, Badgley, has a rather awkward sense of women’s fashion—looks like Blake needs to school the fellow!

Gossip Girl Wardrobe Costs $19 Million

Gossip Girls Blake Lively and Leighton MeesterThe Gossip Girl wardrobe is worth an estimated $19 million.

The hit TV show, which follows a group of wealthy New York teenagers, is famed for its designer clothes, bags, jewelery, shoes and other accessories. Each episode of the series, which stars Leighton Meester and Blake Lively, features a string of exclusive outfits, which are stored in an impressive wardrobe spanning 1,500 sq ft and five floors.

Chace Crawford, who plays Nate Archibald on the show, said, “The girls disappear into that wardrobe for hours. They are like kids in a candy store! In fact, I always ask them not to schedule my fittings after Blake’s, because she always makes me late for my next scene. I tell them they have to get her enough Disneyland time.”

Costume designer Eric Daman has revealed it is a lengthy process trying to decide which pieces are featured on the show: “We average five to six looks per character—a total of 80 outfits per episode. And you have to go through 500 to get to that 80.”

Chace insists most of the wardrobe space is occupied by outfits for the leading female characters: “I have five pairs of shoes in a large box. They have clothes spread over five stories!”
