Sneak Peek: Tim Walker’s ‘Story Teller’
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, Editorials, Fashion Designers, Models, News,
Fashion photographer Tim Walker has offered up a taste of what to expect from his upcoming photo book, Story Teller.
While some photos immediately recall famed editorials of his from years past, he has also included new material, including a portrait of Alexander McQueen - seen after the jump - joining a skull for a cigarette break (this was actually the last known photo taken of McQueen before he died in 2010).
The title Story Teller is quite appropriate for Walker, considering his theatrical, colorful sense of photography (which, of course, seems to be a fashion designer's dream!).
The retrospective will span a hefty 254 pages of his work, mixing editorial and portraiture from back to 2007.

+ T: The New York Times Style Magazine published an interview with Emma Watson, who discusses how she used fashion to distinguish herself from her Harry Potter alter ego, Hermione. The profile is paired with images of Emma in some androgynous Ralph Lauren looks as well as one where she channels Twiggy.
+ Lana Del Rey's line for H&M isn't out yet, but the retail giant has unleashed photos of the singer in the clothes to get us talking about it.
+ Speaking of H&M, the folks behind the Swedish company's marketing team have done the ladies all the great service of erecting several statues of David Beckham at their stores across the country. Best yet, he's in his underwear!
+ In a personal and intimate photoshoot, Orlando Bloom photographs his wife Miranda Kerr for T: The New York Times Style Magazine. In addition to just being downright cute for doing this together, Bloom's photos aren't that bad for someone who has spent what seems to be more time in front of the camera.

Lily Cole: Physical Perfection Doesn’t Exist
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Health & Beauty, Models,
Lily Cole doesn't believe in physical perfection. The supermodel and actress admits she has put herself until pressure to maintain a certain look in the past but says as she has gotten older, she realizes that no one is perfect.
Speaking in a new film created for the New Thinker's Index, Lily, 23, said, "I don't believe in perfection, I don't believe it exists and I don't believe it's necessary. I've put myself under a lot of pressure in the past, too skinny or too fat. It can be quite a destructive way to live life. A lot of advertising can make people think you're not enough as you are, you're not enough until you have that or look like that."
Although Lily sometimes got annoyed with photographers demanding constant alterations while shooting her, she admitted Irving Penn, who died in 2009, knew exactly what he was doing.
"In terms of fashion Irving Penn kept making me make such tiny alterations when I posed for him, I remember thinking it seemed silly, it was so particular but after seeing the contact sheet I realized the last two shots had nailed it."
Claudia Schiffer Updates Iconic Guess Shot
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, Models,
Claudia Schiffer stars in an update of her iconic 1989 Guess shot to celebrate the company's 30th anniversary.
The photo of the supermodel - wearing nothing but a bustier, gold hoop earrings and with her blonde locks blowing across her face - boosted the brand enormously and her new shoot saw her reunited with its photographer, Ellen von Unwerth.
"She was a turning point of Guess, she was a turning point of Ellen's career, Guess was a turning point of a life for Claudia," said Paul Marciano, chief executive officer and creative director of Guess.
Although the shot didn't feature a pair of the denim jeans the company is most famous for, Paul added that it "made her career in my view, and that made Guess a different company. Everybody talked about the Guess Girl."
Claudia featured in six campaigns for the company from 1989 to 1991, and is still very fond of the brand.

Kate Winslet Can’t Refuse a Nude Mario Testino Shoot
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Editorials, Health & Beauty,

Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet couldn't refuse posing naked for "magician" Mario Testino. Winslet paid tribute to the legendary fashion photographer's ability to present women in the nude for shoots, and his ability to make them feel at ease with their bodies.
"You know that his biggest strength without fail is making women look beautiful. When Mario turns to you and says, 'It's beautiful, but I think it would work better naked, no?' How can one refuse? No matter what insecurities about oneself a subject may have, Mario makes them go away like a magician. One moment you are in the hair and makeup chair fully clothed and wishing you had smoother skin, longer legs and smaller feet and then Mario comes in and in that charming way he takes you by the hand and says, 'Don't worry it's going to be amazing,'" Kate said, presenting the photographer with a Lifetime Achievement award at the El Museo del Barrio gala in New York last week.

Rankin Considers Photographing Kate Moss’ Wedding
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Models, News,
Fashion photographer Rankin would consider breaking his no-weddings rule for Kate Moss.
While he has always refused to act as official photographer at weddings because he finds the pressure too great, he would step in if close pal Kate Moss -- who will marry Jamie Hince in July -- asked him to photograph her nuptials.
"You don't say no to Kate but she wouldn't ask me -- she'll probably get Mario [Testino]. If she did ask though, I'd tell her to get back up as well as me. I'd be so nervous, and not just because it's her -- for anyone it's a really special day. There's too much pressure on it and so much stress seems to surround weddings. I always say no to photographing family weddings -- I'll always set up a studio on the day but I won't take pictures all day. You don't want to mess it up."
If Rankin -- who along with photographing Kate has worked with Sienna Miller, Heidi Klum and Vivienne Westwood -- does decide to take pictures of Kate's wedding he should find it easy as he revealed he learned his craft by taking pictures of family and friends.
