Stars Pay Tribute to Vidal Sassoon

Miley Cyrus is among the stars to have paid tribute to Vidal Sassoon.
The celebrity hairstylist - whose 1960s wash-and-wear cuts allowed women to be freed from hairspray - passed away at his home in Los Angeles Wednesday morning aged 84, and a number of famous faces and fellow stylists have hailed his revolutionary ways.
"RIP Vidal Sassoon. You are forever fabulous," Miley wrote on her Twitter.
Model Erin O'Connor hailed Vidal as an "inspiration" in her tribute. "RIP Vidal Sassoon. Inspired so many, myself included," she wrote.
Meanwhile, celebrity hairdresser Nicky Clarke praised Vidal for his "drive of modernism" and overhaul of women's hairstyling. "He was part of that drive of modernism. He was very, very interested in modernism of all sorts...he just introduced all of that into hair. And at the same time he probably freed women of that weekly ritual of having their hair backcombed and being under a dryer. It depicted a whole new look of that time," he said on Daybreak.

Bjork on McQueen’s Death Obsession
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers,
Bjork thinks Alexander McQueen had a “connection” with death.
The 40-year-old British designer took his own life on the eve of his mother’s funeral in February and the Icelandic singer thinks his “daredevil” tendencies made him a better designer.
“I felt Lee’s raw connection with nature and birth and death was very refreshing. When I moved to London, being from Iceland, I sometimes found the self-importance in the UK’s obsession with the decay of its empire boring, to insist the whole world is dying with them. Lee had so many ideas that he overcame this dilemma with fertility, raw gusto, sense of fun and courage. He was the kind of daredevil that looks death and birth straight in the eye.”
Bjork - who dressed as an angel and performed a heartfelt rendition of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday” at the designer’s memorial service last month - also posted a moving tribute on her website: “dear lee, i can´t stop thinking how both fierce and feeble you are , it is difficult to grasp this, my condolences go out to your family and friends and all your team who must be all trying to fathom this. (sic)”

Quote of the Day: Cathy Horyn Says Couture is Dying
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Fashion Designers, Fashion Shows, News, Rumors,
“Like perpetually dieting designers, haute couture is definitely shrinking before our eyes. Oh, don’t be fooled by the giant lion at Chanel, which, depending on how you look at these things, is either an example of Karl Lagerfeld’s brilliant stagecraft or an advertisement for a new Disney restaurant chain. Most of the remaining half-dozen or so houses that show haute couture scaled down their presentations this week: a nip here, a tuck there and a PR man explaining in a hushed tone that the designer wanted to ‘return to couture’s roots.’... Unless you have been catching up on Gossip Girl reruns, national deficits and unemployment do not correlate with a couture dress that costs as much as a Harvard education. Couture is slipping off people’s radars faster than a U.F.O. “
