Quote of the Day: Karl Lagerfeld on Anorexia

"I'm sorry to say that it's a subject I consider ridiculous for several reasons; the story with the anorexic girls - nobody works with anorexic girls, that's nothing to do with fashion. People who have that [anorexia] have problems to do with family and things like that... There are less than 1 per cent of anorexic girls, but there more than 30 per cent of girls in France - I don't know about England - that are much, much overweight. And it is much more dangerous and very bad for the health. So I think today with the junk food in front of the TV it's something dangerous for the health of the girl."
- Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld on an issue in the fashion world that has been addressed by both models and designers in the industry.

Tyra Banks: I Used to Get Told I Was Too Fat
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Health & Beauty, Models,
Tyra Banks used to get letters saying she was "too fat" when she was a size six.
The America's Next Top Model host has spoken out in support of Vogue magazine's anti-eating disorders initiative and she has slammed fashion designers for only hiring skinny models.
"When I was a model I was a four and then I started to become curvy and became a six and I got so many letters saying I was way too big and fashion designers were telling me I was fat. My mom got letters from designers saying they are not going to hire me anymore," she said.
The 38-year-old supermodel recalls being shocked at seeing models so skinny they had developed lanugo, a fur that can appear when a person is malnourished, and she is grateful to the publication's campaign for highlighting some of the issues in the fashion industry: "This is a really big deal as it's been an unspoken rule in my opinion that the fashion industry says it's OK to be as skinny as you can just as long as you can walk and you don't faint. I would see girls that had lanugo on their skin, a duck-like fur that comes on your body when you're anorexic when you're body is screaming out for warmth."

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Models, News,
Kate Moss has sparked controversy after being accused of making comments which could promote extreme dieting. The supermodel caused outrage after revealing she tries to live by the motto “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.”
She said in an interview on fashion news website WWD: “There are loads of mottos. There’s, ‘Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.’ That’s one of them. You try and remember, but it never works.”
Similar phrases can be found on pro-anorexia websites such as Starving For Control, which carries the slogan “nothing tastes as good as thin feels.”
The 35-year-old British beauty - who has a seven-year-old daughter, Lila Grace - has now been accused of encouraging young people to develop eating disorders.
