Exchange Center: Week 5

Description
Ron Chow and I continue to watch our team roll in our Dropping Dimes experts league. We have held on to our first place ranking with a 28-8 record. As for the other Dime droppers, Dennis Velasco and Brandon Haraway sit in playoff position, 5th and 6th place, respectively. Sarge and his squad have struggled and rank 12th in a 14-team league. Who’s the caboose thus far? Jon Loomer from NBA.com and his “Loomer’s Losers” have been, well, losing. His team has averaged a 6-3 loss in league play thus far.

I have been checking out waiver wire articles from various sites, and more often than not, every player listed was drafted or was picked up many days ago. Hopefully by listing the pick-ups from 10-, 12- and 14-team leagues, you can get the sense of what is happening around the fantasy world, and land some of these blue chip waiver wire players.

10-team league

Add/Drop #1: Brandon Rush for Ricky Davis
Add/Drop #2: Andray Blatche for Tyrus Thomas
Add/Drop #3: Russell Westbrook for Jamaal Tinsley
Add/Drop #4: Eric Gordon for Daequan Cook
Add/Drop #5: Chris Wilcox for Michael Finley

The toss-up for pick-up of the week comes between Gordon and D. J. Augustin. Gordon is clearly ahead of Davis on the Clippers’ depth chart, and thus Ricky Buckets should be dropped. Rush scored 18 points off the bench yesterday, but it is surprising that he garners a roster spot in a league with ten teams. Blatche was off the radar, but some solid play should have been back on the most-added list soon. The coaching change in Oklahoma City should be good for both Westbrook and Wilcox in terms of added playing time.

12-team league

Add/Drop #6: Team A trades Luis Scola and Rajon Rondo for Turkoglu. Team B drops Josh Boone. Team A picks up Eric Gordon.
Add/Drop #7: Steve Blake for J.R. Smith
Add/Drop #8: Anderson Varejao for Darrell Arthur
Add/Drop #9: Shane Battier for Michael Conley
Add/Drop #10: Yi Jianlian for JaVale McGee

That trade went down in my main league with family and friends. I like the Eric Gordon addition that completed the trade, and prefer the Turkoglu/Gordon side of the trade myself. Rondo was drafted in the 7th round in this league and Scola was a last round (13th) pick, while Turkoglu was a fourth-rounder. Rondo has piled up the assist and steals.

Will J.R. Smith be dropped across the board soon? Battier was picked up by the first place team, and he can afford to wait a while for him to fully come back. Tracy McGrady is on his team, so I can see why he wanted to add Battier for insurance. Ron Chow pulled the trigger in adding Yi. The Raptors-New Jersey game last week was pretty crazy and a fantasy bonanza for pretty much all involved, except for Jermaine O’Neal owners.

14-team league

Add/Drop #11: Andray Blatche for Anthony Morrow
Add/Drop #12: Joel Przybilla for Luke Ridnour
Add/Drop #13: D.J. Augustin for Kevin Love
Add/Drop #14: Tony Allen for Erick Dampier
Add/Drop #15: Cuttino Mobley for Darrell Arthur

Ron Chow grabbed Blatche for our first place team. Kevin Love will be picked up by some team at some point. Tony Allen is the type of player you plug into your line-up to fill a hole, but he currently resides on the bench for the team that added him. This is a weekly roster league, so perhaps the move was not made in time for this week. Augustin has had a few good games, but I read that Jason Richardson is practicing and might play tonight against Toronto.
