Comic Book Jobs: Who’s Hiring? The Wetlands!

Okay, this has to be the oddest job opportunity I’ve seen in a long time. If you define “job” using words like “money” and “salary,” then this isn’t really a job. But it sure is oddly fascinating, and someone will come along and snap it up.

The Wetlands Activism Collective is looking for a volunteer for an Environmental Internship. You’ll be a Comic Book Activist and part of their Greening The Comics Industry program. Nope, you won’t be making signs and protesting outside the offices of DC Comics and Disney/Marvel, but you will be doing some environmental activism to make the comic book landscape a little bit greener.

The Wetlanders want to “shift the comic book industry to use of 100% post-consumer recycled paper and to reduce overall paper use.” They’re looking for someone who can “organize grassroots environmentalists” to conduct surveys at comic book conventions, find out what kinds of paper the comic book industry is already using, do some outreach to the comic book media, and, most important of all, get your facts together and make your green-based presentations to the big comic book companies.

Best of all, these internships are available year round, and your hours can be as flexible as Flex Mentallo. Of course, you’ll be working from their offices in Brooklyn, so it’s the subway for you, you sophisticated urban Manhattanite.
