New Academy Award winners Sandra Bullock, Jeff Bridges, Mo’Nique, Christoph Waltz and director Kathryn Bigelow spent some time talking to the press after their big wins. Bullock, Mo’nique, Waltz and Bigelow were nominated for the first time in their careers this awards season; Bridges won his statue for his fifth career nomination.
“This came out of left field,” Sandra Bullock told reporters as she brandished her award for Best Actress. “This was the film I said ‘no’ to,” the actress explained. Bullock received her first nomination and win for The Blind Side, in which she plays Leigh Anne Tuohy. “Things came together in a way that I didn’t see coming,” she said of the film.

Mariah Carey’s Gained Confidence from Precious

Mariah Carey thinks playing a dowdy social worker has boosted her self-confidence.
The singer - who is married to Nick Cannon and was previously wed to record company chief Tommy Mottola until 1997 - shed her glamorous image for her role in Precious and says having to spend hours in front of a camera with heavy lighting and no make-up makes her feel more comfortable with staying natural at home.
“I think it was crucial to dress down. It was tough because making music videos is so different with the costumes, the angles, the lighting, stuff like that,” she explained. “In Precious, we sat in a fluorescent dentist’s office and it was the worst-lit scene of the movie. The over-lighting emphasizes the dark stuff under your eyes. I guess now I’ll feel better about myself when I’m dressed normally at my house and walk past a mirror and see myself. I’ll be like, well I’ve looked worse.”

Mariah Carey pays for her entourage to go to Cannes

Mariah Carey has paid for her entourage to attend the Cannes Film Festival. Mariah, who is renowned for her diva-like behavior, was told there were not enough free tickets for her staff to attend the prestigious event and see her new movie Precious. Rather than be separated from her team, Mariah shelled out for a number of exclusive passes to ensure they could all go together.
A source told Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper: “Mariah’s really close with her team and couldn’t bear the thought of a couple of people not being able to come, so she paid for it out of her pocket. That’s virtually unheard of in the celebrity world.”
