Melissa Etheridge: Angelina’s Double Mastectomy Wasn’t Brave
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Movies, Music, Features,
While many people have praised Angelina Jolie for her decision to undergo a double mastectomy surgery for preventative measures against cancer - of which she discovered she is at great risk due to a mutated gene - singer Melissa Etheridge is not one of them.
"I wouldn’t call it the brave choice. I actually think it’s the most fearful choice you can make when confronting anything with cancer," the 52 year-old musician - who underwent five rounds of chemotherapy herself in 2005 - said in a recent interview.
The LGBT activist reasoned that there are other ways to avoid cancer: "[Having a double mastectomy] is way down the line on the spectrum of what you can do and [considering] the advancements we’ve made in things like nutrition and stress levels. My belief is that cancer comes from inside you and so much of it has to do with the environment of your body. It’s the stress that will turn that gene on or not. Plenty of people have the gene mutation and everything but it never comes to cancer. There was so much acidity in everything. I really encourage people to go a lot longer and further before coming to [Jolie's] conclusion."

Michael Douglas Backtracks on Cancer Comment
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Movies, Features,
The internet got a little too intrigued by Michael Douglas' sex life recently, and - not surprisingly - he's looking to clarify his previous comments to quell the interest.
In an interview with The Guardian, Douglas - who is married to Catherine Zeta-Jones - spoke frankly about the possible sources of his throat cancer, pointing out that one can contract the cancer-causing human papillomavirus (HPV) from oral sex. His rep was quick to issue a statement about what he wants you to think Douglas said: "Michael Douglas did not say cunnilingus was the cause of his cancer. It was discussed that oral sex is a suspected cause of certain oral cancers as doctors in the article point out but he did not say it was the specific cause of his personal cancer."
During an interview later that day, Douglas furthered the statement, noting the internet's fascination with the story: "In the last 24 hours I have become the poster boy for oral cancer... And just so we all understand, I think we would all love to know where our cancer comes from. I simply to a reporter tried to give a PSA announcement about HPV and a virus that can cause oral cancers, and is one of the few areas of cancers that can be controlled, and there are vaccinations that kids can get. So that was my attempt."

Michael Douglas Knows What Caused His Cancer
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies, Features,
Michael Douglas believes his throat cancer was caused by oral sex.
The Behind the Candelabra star, who was diagnosed with stage four cancer in 2010 but has been free of the illness for two years, has no regrets about spending years smoking and drinking, for which he sought treatment in rehab in 1992, because he doesn't think it caused him to get sick.
"No. Because without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV [human papillomavirus], which actually comes about from cunnilingus [oral sex performed on a female]," the 68-year-old actor, who is married to Catherine Zeta-Jones, told the Guardian.
The actor, who has two children, Carys, 10, and Dylan, 12, with Catherine, as well as 34-year-old son Cameron, who is serving a jail sentence for drug offenses, with his first wife Diandra Luker, was initially worried that stress had made him ill but now believes it was caused by a sexually transmitted disease: "I did worry if the stress caused by my son's incarceration didn't help trigger it. But yeah, it's a sexually transmitted disease that causes cancer. And if you have it, cunnilingus is also the best cure for it."

Angelina Jolie’s Aunt Dying of Cancer
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies,

UPDATE: Angelina Jolie's aunt Debbie Martin passed away early Sunday morning.
Angelina Jolie's aunt is in a coma dying of cancer. The actress recently revealed she had undergone a double mastectomy after she was identified as carrying the BRCA1 cancer gene, which gave her an 87 per cent chance of developing breast cancer and a 50 per cent risk of getting ovarian cancer.
Now, her uncle Ronald has told of how his wife Debbie, 61, collapsed on Wednesday and was surrounded by her family last night. "She had a seizure and we took her to hospital. They have turned off the life support and her family is all here holding her hand. This is the love of my life ... My wife is hanging in there. It's just a matter of hours. She's a fighter. I have reached out to Angelina to tell her what's going on ... [Debbie is] in a coma. It's breast cancer but I think it has spread everywhere," he said.

Emma Stone Opens up About Mother’s Cancer
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies, Features,
Emma Stone says her mother's cancer diagnosis was "terrifying."
The Amazing Spider-Man actress was devastated when her mom Krista Stone was found to have triple negative breast cancer in 2008 and although she was living in Los Angeles at the time, Emma flew home to Arizona as much as possible while Krista underwent treatment.
"I was oddly stoic, the opposite of how I usually am. But it was terrifying," she said.
Despite Emma's fears, Krista has been cancer-free for five years following a double mastectomy and chemotherapy and praised her daughter for her bravery. "I'm sure, in private, Em lived in fear and anxiety. But she really shifted into this [mode of], 'We're going to take care of this, and everything's going to be fine,'" she said.
Emma, 24, is extremely close to her mother and has previously credited her for telling her what to avoid wearing when growing up and giving her confidence: "When I was a teenager and all the cool girls were wearing their pajama pants in school, my mother would forbid me to do that - or to let my bra straps show. Everybody has parts of their body that they dislike, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over them."
