Billy Bob Thornton is ‘Proud’ of Angelina

Billy Bob Thornton is "proud" of the way his ex-wife Angelina Jolie handles her life.

The 56-year-old actor - who was married to Angelina from 2000 to 2003 - is impressed with how the actress, who has six children with Brad Pitt, deals with her hectic lifestyle and believes she and Brad are perfect for each other.

"We're great friends and always will be. I'm proud of the way she's handled having a family. She's great for Brad, Brad's great for her. I support them 100 per cent. Angie is a little girl and a woman and a teenager and a ghost all wrapped up in one," he said, writing in his book The Billy Bob Tapes: A Cave Full of Ghosts.

Proving how close they are, Angelina wrote the foreword in the book, describing the director as a funny guy but similar to a "mad mathematician."

"He has an unmatchable wit and can make you laugh until your face hurts. To be with him is like being with a mad mathematician. He is constantly counting and repeating. Some people walk through life able to quiet the voices in their heads. He can't. And I, and everyone else who knows him well, we love him for it," she wrote.

Angelina Jolie Praises Billy Bob

Angelina Jolie has praised Billy Bob Thornton for "giving her the confidence to succeed in her career and in her personal life."

The 36-year-old actress wrote the foreword for her ex husband's upcoming memoir The Billy Bob Tapes: A Cave Full of Ghosts, and friends who have seen a copy of it revealed Angelina thanked her former love for all of his support.

"She praises him for giving her the confidence to succeed in her career and in her personal life. Her words are lovely. She truly speaks from the heart," a source said.

Angelina - who raises six children with partner Brad Pitt - and Billy Bob have remained on good terms since their divorce in 2003 and he has previously spoken of his pride in his former wife after she directed her first movie In The Land Of Blood And Honey: "We talk every now and then, she seems to be doing very well directing her own movie, which I am so proud of her for. I always thought she should do that, writing and directing. She's real smart, and very creative, and I think it's a great job for her."

Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton's marriage ended because he didn't want kids, according to one of his ex-wives.

Melissa deBin-Parish - who was married to the 56-year-old Bad Santa actor from 1978 to 1980 - claims it was Billy's lack of desire for children that drove them apart: "I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that he did not want to be around children back then. Look at the timeline: she adopted Maddox and then, [Billy] was gone."

The pair - who met in 1999 on the set of Pushing Tin and married after just two months of dating in 2000 - split just three months after adopting Maddox, now 10 - who has since been adopted by Angelina's current partner Brad Pitt.

But Melissa admits she doesn't know why they were together in the first place:
