Elizabeth Taylor Made Hugh Grant Wealthy
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies,
Hugh Grant was drunk when he bought a painting of Elizabeth Taylor which made him $17.9 million.
The Did You Hear About the Morgans? star purchased the Andy Warhol painting in 2001 for $3.2 million and was praised for his knowledge of the art world when he sold it for $21.2 million in 2007.
But Hugh, 49, has confessed he ordered a member of his staff to bid for the painting at a New York auction during two-days of drinking.
“To my horror, she did, and even worse, got it. It all began with drink. I’d been having a drunken dinner with my father the night before, and I said, ‘We ought to go see my brother Jamie. You know, the Concorde’s amazing,’” he told the Daily Mail. “‘And he said, ‘I hear it is.’ So I bought him a Concorde ticket and we went. We had lunch, drank a lot of beer. And I was thinking about some stuff in the Sotheby’s auction and I saw the Liz Taylor. I slightly regret selling it now, even though it made me rich.”
The pop art painting was one of several portraits Warhol created at the height of his fame and creative output in the 60s.

VIDEO: Old Marilyn Monroe Footage Sparks New Scandal
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Movies, Videos, Rumors,
An unknown home-cameraman has decided to share a fifty-year old video of someone who very much appears to be late actress Marilyn Monroe. In the short film, she takes a few hits off what very much appears to be a joint (you know, marijuana). The video purports to have been shot in 1958 or 59.
Keya Morgan, a New York area collector, has purchased the film (for the bargain price of $275K). He’ll be selling it on eBay this week. The story first broke in the Huffington Post.

England’s famed auction house Christie’s has managed to get an original copy of Charles Darwin’s On the Origin of Species, the book that details the scientist’s theory of evolution. The book, first printed in 1859, was found on a toilet book shelf in a family home in southern England.
Insert your own evolutionist theory crap joke here.
The book, one of only 1,250 first editions printed, will be sold on Tuesday to celebrate the 150th anniversary of its first publication. Christie’s estimates the tome could bring as much as $99,000 USD.

Price Climbing on Marilyn Monroe-Adjacent Vault
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Movies,

Richard Poncher’s former crypt is quickly becoming the most famous burial spot in the country…at least, it could well be the most expensive. You see, Poncher was formerly laid to rest just above the grave belonging to Marilyn Monroe. The crypt is located in Beverly Hills at the Westwood Village Memorial Park, specifically in the Corridor of Memories Mausoleum.
Poncher’s widow put the tomb on the market, ostensibly to earn money to pay a $1.6 million mortgage. The housing market being what it is, this was a genius idea. Property values on homes are falling, so just sell off an entirely different type of real estate.

Michael Jackson Glove Up for Bids
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Music, Clothing,
One of the most iconic pieces of clothing in music history is going up for auction later this year.
Michael Jackson‘s glove - the one he wore during that memorable Motown performance in 1983 - is just one of several Jackson items that will be made available. The glittery article that dazzled during his Moonwalk is unlike the many others in the singer’s wardrobe. The store-bought glove was adorned with hand cut rhinestones. It was also left-handed.
Other collectables going to the highest bidder include a fedora worn by the King of Pop during the 1995 MTV Music Awards, several “Thriller” zombie costumes and a “Bad” jacket.
The November 21 auction will also feature an early demo tape from Madonna and never-released lyrics from Jimi Hendrix. For more information on the event, click here.

Cuddle the ‘08 Candidates - Cabbage Patch Style
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Photos, Breaking News,

Limited edition Star Wars action figures. The Princess Diana beanie baby. Every so often, there comes along a must-have toy that’s made for those who remain kids at heart. But they’re not called toys - they’re called collector’s items, and that makes obsession okay. For those who love the idea of the ungettable, Christmas just came early. Believe it or not, the minds behind Cabbage Patch Kids actually found a way to make John McCain look cuddly.
Four new dolls have recently been unveiled by the famous toy line, one-of-a-kind creations that some collectors would stoop to almost any means just to own. Your favorite candidate may not win the upcoming election…but they could score a spot in your curio cabinet.
That’s right: there’s a Sarah Palin Cabbage Patch Kid doll. She’s wearing a red power suit, fashionable glasses and a big smile. Her arms seem spread open, almost as if to offer a hug. It’s every bit as adorable as buyers might want it to be.

Win a Meeting with Miley Cyrus
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Movies, Music, Television,
In an attempt to raise money for her family’s charity (and probably sound good PR for herself), Miley Cyrus is auctioning off a “meet and greet” with her at an upcoming red carpet event.
The person who bids the most money for the Pappy Cyrus Family Foundation - an organization that supports underprivileged children - will have the opportunity to join the singer at the November premiere of Bolt, an animated Disney film Cyrus is a part of. The bidding, which began last night and ends July 29, currently stands at just over $2000. (I believe parents paid just about that much for tickets to her last concert tour.)
Other items up for grabs in the eBay auction include clothing actually worn by the star and autographed posters and cds. You can learn more about the fundraiser from Miley in a video clip found after the jump.

Celebrity Baby Items Up for Auction
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Movies, Television, Celebrity Babies,
If you often envision your babies wearing something seen in Us Magazine, this upcoming auction might be right up your alley.
Next week, eBay will feature hand-me-down items from a list of Hollywood celebrities. The gently-used pieces (at least, I hope they’re gently-used) are being donated in hopes of raising money for several children’s charities. Organizations benefitting from the proceeds will include the March of Dimes and Save the Children.
Come April 29, interested parties can bid on one of Matt Damon‘s former messenger-style baby bags, a high chair of Julianne Moore’s and an Adidas track suit worn by Mariska Hargitay’s son. Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Jeri Ryan are several of the other stars contributing to the cause.
Those wanting to participate can find more information here.
