Let’s face it, 2008 was a wild year for all the personalities from show business that we love (and despise.) We’ve published a bunch of news, rumors, and opinions here on VIP Breakdown over the past year, and we felt it would only be right to recap the top 20 most read articles for the entire year. So that is just what we’ve done, so you’ll find that below. Oh, and by the way, what the heck, y’all? We published an article at the end of 2008 about Robert Pattinson getting a hair cut, and it leapfrogged everything else we did for the entire year, becoming the most read, in a matter of a week? What gives? Anyhoo, here we go:

Nicole Richie’s Come a Long Way

Two years ago, photos of a terribly emaciated Nicole Richie in a bikini traveled all over the Internet. The skinny star was ridiculed and reported upon for her bony, unhealthy appearance, very public friendship falling out and seemingly out-of-control ways.
Today, Richie looks like the perfect picture of a healthy, happy mother. Richie is often photographed with Harlow in tow and currently is looking fabulously filled-out and fashionable. It’s a wonder what a good thirty pounds will do for a girl.
Now, the star who once seemed to have no future at all is planning a wedding, and perhaps might add even more responsibility to her motherhood role. According to gossip, Richie and boyfriend Joel Madden might be thinking of adoption. “I’m definitely not against adopting,” Madden told AskMen.com recently. “I went to the Central African Republic and fell in love with the place. If I was going to adopt, it would probably be from there.”

Vanessa Hudgens has become the spokeswoman for Ecko Red, a ladies’ clothing line offered through Ecko Unlimited (you know - that’s the company that uses the rhinos).
Disney’s High School Musical star looks all grown up in the new campaign, which features Hudgens showing off sexy poses and the latest fashions.

Paris Parades BFF for Paps

For the holiday season, Paris Hilton is doing some relaxing shopping in Aspen - with MTV reality-chosen BFF Brittany Flickinger in tow.
According to reports, Paris and her BFF were joined on holiday by sis Nicky Hilton and her boyfriend David Katzenberg. Hilton parents Rick and Kathy were on hand as well. Rumor has it that the entire group enjoyed the Caribou Club two nights in a row - though the elder Hiltons left the dance floor to their daughters well before the heiresses were ready to quit.
Paris has recently been spotted hanging with BFF Brittany on other occasions as well. The duo have been photographed shopping and dining together in the past month, which would seem to prove that Paris didn’t ditch her newfound friend once the cameras stopped rolling on her reality show.
But, that’s probably the point of all these photo ops.

Saying Good-Bye to Eartha Kitt

Iconic actress Eartha Kitt passed away this past Christmas Day at the age of 81. In her lifetime, she was a singer, a movie star, a famed TV villain and one of the sexiest women ever to grace the screen.
The former Catwoman suffered from colon cancer, but even in her advanced age she remained active in many film and TV projects.
Kitt’s career began on the stage in the 1940s, where she made an impression with her acting talent and strong vocals. She went on to recording and TV fame in the 1950s. She began appearing movies as early as 1948, but didn’t become a household name until she landed the role of Catwoman in TV’s Batman. Kitt played the beautiful villain in 1968, and was called the “most exciting woman in the world” by actor/director Orson Welles.
She appeared on the stage, where she got her start, as recently as 2005 in The Junfan Project. Kitt regularly voiced the character of Yzma for Disney’s The Emperor’s New School, and appeared in the 2007 movie And Then Came Love. The Tony-nominated singer is perhaps best known in the music industry for recording the Christmas hit “Santa Baby.”

Calling All Ladies: Archuleta’s Eighteen!

For several weeks, the teen and tween girls all over America carried on a TV love affair with baby-faced David Archuleta. The American Idol crooner swept in and stole hearts using nothing more than an “Aw, shucks” modesty and sweet smile.
Oh, yeah…and he’s got an exceptional singing voice. The women who adore him have to wait no more: David Archuleta, American Idol runner-up, has finally turned eighteen.
He can vote, he can do movies and TV without parental or guardian supervision…and he can legally marry or date anyone he pleases. The soft-spoken singer has been appearing on television a lot recently, cropping up for Christmas specials and other events. There is no doubt in my mind that he’ll also make an appearance on American Idol’s upcoming Season 8. His overwhelming popularity last year and newfound independence all but guarantee another performance on the big stage.

Questionable Outfit of the Day: Mariah Carey

I’ve got to hand it to Mariah Carey. That singer won’t let marriage zip her up anytime soon.
Although yesterday’s temperature in Aspen was chilly enough for Mariah to wear a ski jacket and hideous Christian Dior boots, it apparently wasn’t cold enough for her cleavage. Maybe she was just temporarily ventilating?

Angie Harmon: The former Women’s Murder Club star and her husband added another little lady to their household. Emery Hope, born last Thursday, is the third daughter for Harmon and Jason Sehorn, a former football player. Emery’s older sisters are three-year-old Finley Faith and three-year-old Avery Grace.

Is Jennifer Lopez heading toward her third divorce?
According to a new report, the 4 1/2 year marriage between Lopez and Marc Anthony could be coming to a close. This news comes after weeks of speculation about their relationship.
Rumors about possible trouble kicked into high gear after Jennifer’s appearance at The Curious Case of Benjamin Button premiere. Not only was Marc not there - the ringless singer was in Las Vegas doing a little partying of his own - neither was her wedding ring. (This may explain why she looked particularly hot that night. Hoping to make somebody jealous?)

Michael Jackson is deathly ill, says InTouch Magazine

While Michael Jackson is typically the punchlines of all sorts of jokes, he is now in a very serious condition, if InTouch sources are to be believed. The magazine is reporting that Michael Jackson is suffering from the rare genetic disease Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency.
award-winning investigative journalist Ian Halperin tells In Touch that he believes that the King of Pop is fighting for is life. “Michael has a very severe lung condition called Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency,” Halperin, a New York Times best-selling author, tells In Touch exclusively. “He’s had it for years but it’s gotten worse. He needs a lung transplant but may be too weak to go through with it. He also has emphysema and chronic gastrointestinal bleeding, which his doctors have had a lot of trouble stopping. It’s the bleeding that is the most problematic part. It could kill him.
Needing a transplant, but being too weak to get one done, is never a good combination. Couple that with chronic bleeding, and there is cause for much concern. And, of course, there is more on the actual disease itself.
