It’s just been confirmed that the 30-year-old singer got engaged to Eric Johnson, a former football player and former student, on Thursday.

This news comes about five months after the two started dating. It also comes (coincidentally??) just days after Simpson’s ex-husband, Nick Lachey, announced his engagement to Vanessa Minnillo.

Hmm …

Simpson, who was busy promoting her clothing line in Kansas City yesterday, was spotted with a new ruby ring at the event.

“Yes, we are excited to confirm that they are engaged!" a spokesperson stated.
