The mood wasn’t particularly festive in Charlie Sheen‘s household today.

Early Christmas morning, the Two and a Half Men star was arrested by police in Aspen, Colorado on domestic violence-related charges. Authorities responded to a home around 8:30 AM when Brooke Mueller, Charlie’s wife of 2 1/2 years, placed a 911 call.

While the circumstances of the incident are still unclear, the actor was booked for second degree assault and menacing (both felonies) and criminal mischief. The 44-year-old has since been let go from the Pitkin County Jail after posting $8500 bond.

According to Sheen’s publicist, the situation might not be as it seems. “Do not be mislead by appearance. Appearance and reality can be as different as night and day. It would benefit everyone not to jump to any conclusion,” Stan Rosenfield said.

Sources tell TMZ that Brooke, whose blood alcohol level allegedly hit .13 when tested by police, may have tried to take back her statement. (Sheen’s BAC was only a .04) Unfortunately, authorities will continue pursuing the complaint for now.

Meanwhile, Sheen reportedly told officers that Mueller was actually the aggressor in their altercation and that he was only trying to defend himself.

Charlie is scheduled to make a court appearance on February 8.
