A change of night didn’t keep viewers from getting their House fix. The show’s move to Monday not only weakened CBS’ comedy stronghold, it provided a nice lead-in for 24. The drama combo then gave FOX wins in both the viewers and the demos.
8pm
- House (14.9 million, 5.4/13 in 18-49) had its largest audience of the season.
- The Big Bang Theory (11.1 million, 4.0/10) lost 700,000; How I Met Your Mother (10.8 million, 4.5/11) gave up 1 million.
- The Bachelor (9.9 million, 3.5/8) also reached a season high.

Monday Ratings: 24 Holds Its Ground

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, 24, Ratings,
Monday night was alright for Jack Bauer. Day 2 of the 24‘s two-part premiere did just as well as Day 1. The good news? The return of House will provide the series a nice lead-in next week. The bad news? The show will then go up directly against Two and a Half Men. (CBS’ strong lineup was the winner last night in both categories.)
8pm
- The 24 two-hour block (12.3 million, 4.1/10 in 18-49) was only off 200,000 from Sunday.
- The Big Bang Theory (4.4/11) and How I Met Your Mother (4.8/12) both attracted 11.8 million.
- The Bachelor (9.1 million, 3.2/8) lured in 400,000 more.
- Superstars of Dance (7.1 million, 4.1/10) fell by 2.4 million.
- Gossip Girl (2.9 million, 1.3/3) remained even.

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, Sports, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Ratings,
Despite two new ABC premieres, the first Monday of 2009 wasn’t an accurate picture of the weeks to come. In addition to a slate of repeats on CBS, the Fiesta Bowl was on. In fact, it’s that football game that helped give FOX a win in both the viewers and demos yesterday.
8pm
- Approximately 16.1 million (5.5/13 in 18-49) saw Texas beat Ohio State in FOX‘s Fiesta Bowl.
- Superstars of Dance (9.5 million, 2.7/7) was off 900,000 from its Sunday outing.
- The Bachelor (3.1/7) premiered to 8.7 million.
- The Big Bang Theory* (2.8/7) turned in 8.6 million; How I Met Your Mother* (2/6/6) registered 7.2 million.
- Gossip Girl (1.4/3) returned to 2.9 million.

Although CBS falls behind its competitors in the news department, the network is having no problems with its entertainment division. Another day, another win for the Eye.

MONDAY 12/22)- Prison Break (FOX, 9pm): “Sara is waiting for news of Michael in a luxury hotel, and she’s not enjoying the luxury.” She becomes unreasonably paranoid anytime someone offers to turn down her bed.
- Momma’s Boys (NBC, 9pm): “The guys go on group dates planned by their moms and individual dates they planned.” Until the big Jay Leno move, NBC will just run MTV’s hand-me-downs.
- The Hills (MTV, 10pm): Season 4 finale. “Lauren and Heidi run into each other and are reminded of why they used to be friends.” I, quite frankly, could use a reminder as well.
- 17 Kids & Counting (TLC, 10pm): “The family welcomes the arrival of Jordyn-Grace Makiya Duggar.” Wake me up when they get to “J.Lo.”

Tuesday Ratings: CBS Breaks 13-Year-Old Record

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Animation, Comedy, Drama, Kids, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, House, Ratings,
What do you get when House is a repeat and DWTS is gone? Another stellar evening for CBS. Despite a two-hour Biggest Loser finale, the Eye network had its best Tuesday viewership since 1995. Meanwhile, a strong night of reality helped NBC tie CBS in the demos.
8pm
- NCIS (19.9 million, 3.9/11 in 18-49) had its largest audience in its six-year history.
- Approximately 11.7 million watched Michelle Aguilar win The Biggest Loser: Families (4.5/12).
- ABC‘s Charlie Brown Christmas (2.9/8) kept 8.3 million entertained.
- House* (6.4 million, 2.4/7) lost 7.5 million.
- 90210* (1.1 million, 0.5/1) was down a smidge.

MONDAY 12/15)- Heroes (NBC, 9:00): “Mohinder may hold the key to rescuing Hiro.” I’m starting to wonder if Mohinder has the answer to anything.
- 20/20 (ABC, 9:00): “Teens put on a show in a chronicle of a Virginia high school production of ‘The Wiz’ that uses video diaries and interviews to follow the emotional drama of students.” Sadly, this is the same network that also put together the barely-watched High School Musical: Get in the Picture.
- Worst Week (CBS, 9:30): “Sam helps Dick choose the perfect gift for Angela after discovering he gets her the same thing every year.” Just for the record: Some things like spa packages and jewelry can be given over and over again.
- The Hills (MTV, 10:00): “Heidi and Spencer consider eloping during a Mexican vacation.” Whatever you do - avert your eyes.

NBC Lays Out New January Schedule

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, NBC, Heroes, Cancellations,

Come this January, NBC will be setting aside some dead weight to make room for a few new entries. The network will also also welcome the return of a critical fave.
- As mentioned earlier, My Own Worst Enemy and Lipstick Jungle have both been cut from the schedule. Crusoe, which was recently moved to Saturdays, is also MIA.
- Life, Chuck and Heroes will all get a few weeks off. (The trio will be back in time for February sweeps.)
- Although it was recently banished to DirecTV, Friday Night Lights will live to see another NBC Friday. The drama will return on Jan. 16.
- Hoping to jump in late on the dance show craze, the network will introduce a new reality series from the producers of American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance. Superstars of Dance, a show which is being described as the “Olympic Games of dance,” will begin airing on Mondays starting January 5th.
- Deal or No Deal will take a hiatus while another Howie Mandel-related series gets its start. Howie Do It - a hidden-camera reality program - will premiere on Friday January 9th.
- Momma’s Boys, another Ryan Seacrest produced show (can we say Keeping Up with the Kardashians?), will get a home on Mondays right after Superstars.
Having trouble keeping this all straight? Feel free to click on TV Envy’s Master Programming Schedule for a little guidance.
