Wednesday Ratings: Taylor Swift Takes Down CBS

Up until last night, Modern Family had been ABC’s bright spot in the demos—that is, until Taylor Swift came along. Yesterday’s broadcast of the CMA Awards - plus Swift’s win for Entertainer of the Year - helped the network pull off wins in both the viewers and the demos this Wednesday.

This Week on TV (11/10-11/16)

Anthony Edwards and Angela Bassett in ER

(You can view TV Envy’s Fall Television Programming Schedule here.)

MONDAY (11/10)
  • Chuck (NBC, 8pm):  “Chuck chances upon his ex-flame (Jordana Brewster) and embellishes his status in life to impress her.” We’re talking about a girl who starred in D.E.B.S.. He shouldn’t try too hard.
  • Prison Break (FOX, 9pm):  “Gretchen gives Michael the rest of the bird book, but he suffers another seizure after deciphering it.” That pretty much sums up my feelings about bird books as well.
  • Samantha Who? (ABC, 9:30):  “Sam is sentenced to community service, where she meets a troubled young woman () and decides to help turn her life around.” Sam has now become the better-looking version of Earl Hickey.
  • 17 Kids and Counting (TLC, 10pm):  “Jinger takes her driving test; the family celebrates Michelle’s birthday and responds to viewer questions.” Uhh, I have a question. Jinger? Seriously?

This Week on TV (11/5-11/11)

Real Housewives

**NBC will devote this whole week to the environment and inject something ‘green’ into all their shows.  To enjoy it, we must turn on our TVs.**

MONDAY (11/5)

**Special times for the ABC lineup tonight; Dancing With The Stars runs until 9:45 (pushing everything else 15 minutes late).**

  • Prison Break (FOX, 8pm):  Two-hour episode.  Michael finally learns that Sara has been murdered tonight.  I’m curious to see how steely his eyes can get.
  • Everybody Hates Chris (CW, 8pm):  ‘When Chris joins the writing staff of the school newspaper, he makes up a story about a serial killer that causes a panic in the community.’  This is what people get when they don’t pay for a real newspaper.
  • How I Met Your Mother (CBS, 8pm):  ‘Marshall learns Lily’s dirty little financial secret when he and she decide to buy an apartment.’  As Suze Orman would say: “If he didn’t realize how many pairs of shoes she had, he’s equally to blame.”
  • The Big Bang Theory (CBS, 8:30pm):  ‘The guys ask Penny to join their ‘Halo’ team.’  The only time boys ask me to play Halo is when they need someone to kill.

Faith Hill’s CMA “Joke” Sparks Controversy

Faith HillDuring last night’s Country Music Association Awards (CMAs), Faith Hill reacted to Carrie Underwood’s win for female vocalist of the year by what appeared to be her screaming “WHAT?” Well, it’s all over the Internet today and in the media—was Hill being a poor sport, a la Kanye West? Hill says no—that she was merely joking with her reaction. Says Hill of the incident, “The idea that I would act disrespectful towards a fellow musician is unimaginable to me. For this to become a focus of attention given the talent gathered is utterly ridiculous. Carrie is a talented and deserving Female Vocalist of The Year.” The camera shot of Hill when the winner was announced did not pick up the audio, but it seemed clear that she was saying the word “WHAT?” The video (of course, available on YouTube.com) also appears to show Hill storm off camera. I don’t know much about country music or the artists, but what I’ve seen of Faith Hill, it does seem out of character for her to be a poor sport. Apparently, Underwood had no hard feelings about it either—her publicist said the two singers spoke afterward and all was fine.
