Although NBC narrowly lost in the viewers to CBS, it outweighed its competitors in the demos.

- NCIS* (2.8/8 in 18-49 demo) was easily the hour’s largest draw.
- Clash of the Choirs (7.7 million, 2.4/7) was down 200,000 in its second showing.
- Duel (2.4/7) challenged 7.3 million.
- Bones* (5.9 million, 2.0/6) was about even with last week.
- Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants* (0.6/2) strutted to 1.4 million.

- Approx. 11.4 million watched Bill crowned The Biggest Loser (4.6/13 in 18-49).
- The Unit (2.8/7) weighed in second with 10.8 million viewers.
- House* (9.9 million, 3.3/9) did slightly better than one week ago.
- According to Jim* (4.4 million, 1.5/4) dropped about 1.3 million.
- Reaper (1.4 million, 0.6/2) did just as well as its lead-in.

- A repeat of NCIS* (11.8 million, 2.5/7 in 18-49 demo) was the hour’s best performer.
- Deal or No Deal (3.1/9) came a close second with 11.3 million.
- Shrek the Halls* (3.4/10) rounded up another 10 million for ABC
- Winnie the Pooh and Christmas Too! (3.1/9) sweetened the pot with 8.5 million.
- Bones* (6.2 million, 2.0/6) was down 2 million from last week.

- The Biggest Loser (3.6/9 in 18-49) weighed in with 9.8 million viewers.
- House* (3.5/9) treated 9.7 million.
- The first hour of Cane (1.9/5) came in third place.
- The According to Jim* block (1.9/5) averaged 5.7 million.
- CW showed a repeat of CBS’ Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show* (2.94 million, 1.3/3). The hand-me-down drew 5.5 million less.

Dancing With the Stars’ two-hour finale was last night’s big ticket. The show helped ABC nudge past FOX in both viewers and demos.

- NCIS (3.3/9 in 18-49 demo) topped the hour with 17 million.
- About 13.6 million welcomed A Charlie Brown Christmas (4.6/12).
- Bones (9.6 million, 3.4/9) was up about 1 million from last week.
- The Biggest Loser (7.2 million, 3.1/8) lost about 300,000 lbs.
- Beauty and the Geek (2.52 million, 1.3/3) remained about even.

- A whopping 24.9 million watched Helio win on Dancing With The Stars (6.4/15 in 18-49 demo).

After five years on air, NCIS is still showing a lot of life. Although the show had its largest audience ever, FOX still came away with the evening’s best numbers:
8pm
- NCIS (18.3 million, 4.1/11 in 18-49 age group) also had the hour’s best demos.
- Bones (9.6 million, 3.6/9) was up almost 750,000 from last week.
- A 2-hour episode of The Biggest Loser (3.3/8) drew in 7.9 million.
- Cavemen (4.9 million, 1.7/5) and Carpoolers (5.5 million, 1.9/5) locked up 4th place.
- Beauty and the Geek (1.3/3) took a backseat with 2.6 million.
9pm
- Although bested by NCIS, House (18.1 million, 7.7/18 in 18-49) still had the evening’s best demos.
- Dancing With The Stars (16.9 million, 3.8/9) was down about 1.5 million from last week.
- The Unit (11 million, 3.0/7) was up about 1/2 million.
- Reaper (1.0/2) racked up last place with 2.4 million.

- About 11.7 million watched the hunt for a serial killer on Law and Order: SVU (4.2/12 in 18-49 demo).

I have a feeling after last night’s great numbers, we’ll still be seeing Linus sitting in that pumpkin patch next year. Although FOX’s Tuesday lineup had the best demos, the classic Halloween special helped ABC attract the largest audience.

- Although it was slightly down from last week, NCIS (16.3 million, 3.3/9 in 18-49 demo) had the hour’s largest audience.
- It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (11.4 million, 3.8/11) easily outperformed the usual Cavemen/Carpoolers numbers.
- Bones (8.9 million, 3.2/9) took a backseat to Snoopy.
- The Biggest Loser (6.3 million, 2.8/7) and The Singing Bee (5.8 million, 1.7/5) both declined from last week.
- Beauty and the Geek (2.3 million, 1.1/3) was down almost a million.

- At 18.8 million, Dancing With The Stars (4.3/10 in 18-49 demo) had the hour’s largest audience.

Although House fans may have been bummed, several networks were thrilled to see a baseball-filled night on FOX. With its stiff competition removed, CBS had a rare Tuesday night audience victory.

- A Bones-less 8pm helped NCIS (17.4 million, 4.1/12 in 18-49 demo) score the night’s best audience.
- FOX’s Red Sox/Indians game (3.6/10) averaged 12.7 million.
- Cavemen (6.9 million, 2.7/8) was on par with last week’s numbers; Carpoolers (6.9 million, 2.7/7) was slightly down.
- Not many viewers cared about Matt Lauer’s exclusive Dateline interview with Sen. Larry Craig (5.7 million, 1.7/5).
- Beauty and the Geek (1.7/5) gained 400,000 viewers and rounded off the hour with 3.5 million.

Assessing (and Ignoring) the New Fall Season

As I type this, I’m listening to the new Radiohead album, In Rainbows, and I’m in a terrifically good mood. See, I love Radiohead like Tyra Banks loves … well, Tyra Banks, and so you would think that this good mood would make me put together a list of wonderful things about the new fall TV season.
Yeah, not so much. To be honest, I haven’t watched a lot of the new fall network TV shows. But it’s worthwhile to take a look at these shows and for me to say what I watched, what I thought, and why I didn’t watch a lot of them. Well, it’s worthwhile for me anyway. Plus it goes well with Radiohead (not really, but it’s not like I’m gonna stop listening). Here goes:
