Friday Ratings: The Numbers Favor CBS

Viewers proved they didn’t care how the US is represented in the Miss Universe pageant. They’d much rather see someone play Plinko.

Friday Ratings: NBC Makes It Two in a Row

Once again, a lack of competition proves to be helpful for NBC.  The Peacock network followed up a Thursday night win with another one last night.

  • The tournament (3.1/10 in 18-49) covered the spread with 8.8 million.
  • A repeat of * (5.2 million, 1.4/5) did better than the canceled Jezebel James.
  • (5 million, 1.3/5) was down a few notches from last week.
  • * (4.2 million, 1.1/4) was up a smidge.
  • (1.2/4) had 4.1 million in its hold.

Friday Ratings: Jezebel James a Ratings Dud

Although she may be loved in indie films, Parker Posey is apparently not a star on the small screen.  The premiere of her new show was a disappointment for FOX’s Friday.

This Week on TV (3/10-3/16)

The Real Housewives of New York City

(You can view TV Envy’s Post-Strike Television Schedule here.)

MONDAY (3/10)
  • The Bachelor: Where Are They Now? (ABC, 8pm):  “Highlights from past seasons include segments catching up with past bachelors (Andrew Firestone and Aaron Buerge) and former contestants.”  So the whole point of the show is to say there is no point to this show.  Look at how successful it’s been!
  • Canterbury’s Law (FOX, 8pm):  Series premiere.  “Julianna Margulies stars as a maverick defense lawyer who plays by her own rules to help the falsely accused.”  I’m guessing will still be on long after this program goes off the air.
  • New Amsterdam (FOX, 9pm):  Regular day and time.  If you didn’t watch last Tuesday or Thursday, I’m sure you won’t tonight either.
  • October Road (ABC, 9pm):  Special time.  In the season (series?) finale, “Eddie’s ex-girlfriend shows up to reconnect with him, causing problems in his relationship with Janet.”  Since we may never get a satisfactory resolution from this ratings-starved show, let’s just pretend Janet kicks her ass.

Friday Ratings: Drew Carey Outmuscles Dennis Miller

Although Amne$ia debuted with good numbers last week, it didn’t have Drew Carey to contend with then.  When put up against The Price is Right, the new program looked pale in comparison.

Game Show AMNE$IA Premieres On NBC

Posted by Jacci Lewis Categories: Games, Prime Time, NBC, Editorial,

Description premiered on last night and all I can say is - this is not your father’s game show nor is it a cheap ripoff of This is Your Life.

Game shows are inherently cheesy. The whole premise of doing some odd collection of tasks in order to win a prize precludes any sophistication or real style. Not that it isn’t entertaining to say, watch someone figure out how much Top Ramen, pantyhose and a coffee maker cost (The Price is Right), but generally the viewer agrees to suspend any expectation of real humor or insight in order to watch someone try to make a few bucks or win a new car.

Amne$ia is different somehow. Maybe it is the delightfully droll host or a better crop of contestants, but this show may just be an exception to the cheesy game show rule.

First of all, the premise is interesting: one contestant, all the most important people in his or her life and the chance to win big bucks by remembering the most minute details of their past. Sounds easy, right? I mean afterall who knows you better than yourself? But would you recall your 3rd grade music teacher’s name? How about her classroom number or even where you sat? Those are the kinds of facts that Amne$ia producers mine from contestant’s lives to try to stump them.
