Lena Dunham Was Fired from HBO’s ‘Mildred Pierce’
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Drama, Mini Series, HBO, Features,
Despite Lena Dunham's great success with her HBO series Girls, the 27-year-old has revealed that she had been fired from her last HBO project, Mildred Pierce.
"I got fired off the one day I did. Fired might be a rough word but I got sweetly dismissed," Dunham said.
The Girls creator admitted that she didn't properly prepare for her role as a nurse in the period drama, which stars Kate Winslet: "I didn't practice. I looked over the script with my mom and since the project takes place in the '30s I was like, 'Am I supposed to do any kind of accent?' My mom was like, 'They are hiring you to be you. Just go for it.' "
Unfortunately for Lena, her mom's advice didn't work out: "You could just see everybody's face drop... It was like Ricky Gervais in Extras. They were like, 'This is a f***ing disaster.'"

The Kennedys Set Ratings Record
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Mini Series, Specials, Cable, Gossip, Ratings,
The little-known Reelz Channel was only too happy to relieve The History Channel of their miniseries burden, and the decision is paying off. The Kennedys was watched by a record-setting audience on Sunday night, putting the small cable channel on the map.
An average of 1.9 million watched the “cursed” miniseries, a re-telling of the Kennedy family history that The History Channel was too afraid to air -- despite doing all the work on the project. The numbers aren’t exactly epic, but when you consider that only 60 million homes receive Reelz it’s a huge accomplishment - and the biggest numbers the channel has ever earned.
The Kenendys stars Greg Kinnear, Katie Holmes, Barry Pepper and Tom Wilkinson.

The Kennedys Miniseries to Air After All
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Mini Series, Specials, Cable, Gossip, Video,
… but, the History Channel still isn’t going to touch it.
The much-talked-about Kennedys miniseries, which was created by the History Channel and (allegedly) pulled off TV by the Kennedy family, will make it to US households after all. Mmm … some of them, anyway.
No major networks were bold enough to accept the series, but the cable ReelzChannel will begin showing The Kennedys starting on April 3rd.
If you’ve never heard of that channel, you aren’t alone. The website has a helpful locator so you can find out how to get it ... and then, you’ll finally have the chance to see Katie Holmes as Jackie Kennedy. Honestly, it’s hard to hold a grudge against the Kennedy clan for trying to put a stop to that.

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Mini Series, Cable, HBO,
"It never occurred to me, beyond the moment of reading those scripts, 'Wow, this is television, therefore it's going to be different somehow.' Sure we have more to shoot ... but the level of determination and level of focus was so much more intense than certainly any film I've ever been apart."
-Oscar winner Kate Winslet on filming Mildred Pierce, an HBO miniseries that will debut on March 27.

Kennedy Miniseries—Featuring Katie Holmes—Already Canceled
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Mini Series, Cable, Cancellations, Video,
It appears the actual Kennedys are the ones to thank played a role in the cancellation of The Kennedys – a miniseries once destined for the History Channel.
The eight-hour event, featuring Greg Kinnear as President John F. Kennedy, was to have focused on focus on the personal relationships within the famous family. And though Katie Holmes “worked as hard” as she could to portray former First Lady Jackie Kennedy, the project was scrapped from the channel’s schedule.

2011 Golden Globe Nominations (TV)
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Award Shows, Drama, Mini Series, Music, Prime Time, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, Cable, CBS, FOX, HBO, NBC, Showtime, TNT-HD, 30 Rock, House, The Office,
The Golden Globe contenders for the 2010-11 season were officially announced Tuesday morning in Beverly Hills by Katie Holmes, Josh Duhamel and Blair Underwood.
Last year's Best Comedy Series winner, Glee, lead all television programs with a total of five nominations. Five series -- 30 Rock, Boardwalk Empire, Dexter, The Good Wife and Mad Men -- tied for second place with three nods each.
Here are some of the notable omissions/inclusions from this year's list of nominees:
- The Good Wife was the only non-cable series to be recognized for Best Drama.
- The Walking Dead replaced that other horror series (True Blood), giving AMC two nominations in the Drama category.
- The limitations of the Best Supporting Actor category meant only two acting noms for the cast of Modern Family.
- Jennifer Love Hewitt has found herself pitted against Claire Danes ... and Dame Judi Dench.
The 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards -- hosted again by Ricky Gervais -- will air Jan. 16 on NBC.
(You can find the full list of nominees after the jump. Click here for the film nominations.)
