Robot American Football

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Misc. Tech, Science, Videos

We have seen soccer-playing robots, but did you know there is also an annual Robot American Football game? Produced by the same group that organized Robot Sumo in Japan, the mini-bots do the playing, thereby depriving its viewers of outright violence and blood-letting that you get most Monday nights. We only have one question after viewing the video. What do you suppose the robotic players do when one of the human refs blows his/her whistle?

I wish I could have a robot of this kind.

Wow I had trouble following that one so I had to watch it a couple times… I love how the robot was just sitting there and then was able to pick it up and speed over to the other endzone!

That is so neat, robots are in fact, I believe, the future. Hey, we had Robot Wars on TV or whatever that TV series was called, so now, who knows, we might have some robot sports! wink

I believe these robots were remote-controlled.  It was exciting seeing them move around the field and compete against each other!  They should have had a human compete with the robots, just for kicks and giggles.

Fun to watch, but there is another source for Robot Football, American Rules, the Robotic Football League based in Denver.

Check out this video on youtube of the RFL superbowl played Feb, 2008.
