Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Drunk, Features,

Whitney Houston and Mary J. BligeWhitney Houston's death made Mary J. Blige quit alcohol.

The "Be Without You" songstress says her close pal's death in February 2012 had such a profound effect on her she began contemplating her own mortality and gave up drinking in a bid to boost her health.

"I was at her funeral [and] being that close to someone you loved so dearly, in a coffin, it freaked me out. It made me realize the importance of my own life. I didn't stop overnight, it was a process. I feel great right now. I have more clarity, more focus, more patience. And I lost weight. When you stop drinking it flies off!"

The 42-year-old star will even abstain from toasting her 10-year anniversary with husband Kendu Isaacs with a glass of champagne next year. "I'll have a glass of ginger ale. Ginger ale and Diet Coke are my drinks," she said.

Cissy Houston: ‘I Don’t Blame Bobby Brown’

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Drugs, Features,

Cissy and Whitney HoustonWhitney Houston's mother doesn't blame Bobby Brown for introducing her daughter to drugs.

The late singer died in February 2011 of accidental drowning in a hotel bathtub caused by heart disease and cocaine use and while her former husband has been widely blamed for first bringing drugs into her life, Cissy Houston doesn't believe her death was his fault.

Writing in her book Remembering Whitney, Cissy explained, "I think Bobby was Nippy's [Whitney] rebellion. Around him, she didn't have to be the perfect girl. Yet I don't blame Bobby for introducing her to drugs."

Cissy tried numerous times to make Whitney quit drugs and details one attempt in 2000 when Whitney refused to go to rehab: "She started pleading for us not to send her to rehab. 'Mommy,' she said, 'please I can take care of it. Just come stay at my house and you can look after me and I'll quit.' I let her talk me into it. But that house was so big that she would just lock herself up somewhere and not come out and because I couldn't force her to stop I eventually just moved home."

Denzel Washington: Whitney Houston Was an Example

Whitney Houston and Denzel WashingtonDenzel Washington thinks that Whitney Houston's death is an "example to keep it together."

The 57-year-old actor believes his friend - who was found dead in the bathtub in her Beverly Hills hotel room in February - didn't realize the terrible toll her addiction to cocaine and crack had taken on her and should be a warning to all actors and musicians not to be seduced by the dark side of fame.

"Whitney was such a sweet, sweet girl and really just a humble girl. It's more of an example to me or the rest of us to keep it together. I was listening to her song 'I Look to You.' It's prophetic. Maybe I'm speaking out of line. Maybe she thought she could have one. And then the next thing you know, her body was betraying her. She didn't know that her body was aging quickly. She couldn't take it. Your body can only take so much. Some people survive [Hollywood and fame], and some people don't."

Whitney Houston’s Mother to Write Tell-All Book

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Obituaries,

Cissy and Whitney HoustonWhitney Houston's mother is writing a tell-all book about the superstar.

Cissy Houston has signed a multi-million dollar deal to write with "candor, honesty and respect" about her daughter, who died as a result of accidental drowning in her bath and effects of heart disease and cocaine use in February.

"When I lost my daughter Nippy [the nickname Whitney's family gave her], the world lost one of the most beautiful voices and an extraordinarily beautiful and charitable woman. In sharing our story in this book, I hope to give her fans something to treasure, the way we all treasured Whitney. We are still receiving thousands of letters each day from her fans, and I hope reading this book will provide a deeper understanding into my daughter's true story," Gospel singer Cissy said.

Whitney famously spiralled into drug addiction alongside her husband Bobby Brown - the father of her 19-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina - in the 90s and Cissy will talk about the issues which this caused in her book.

Bobby Brown Surprised by Whitney’s Drug Taking

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Drugs, Obituaries,

Bobby BrownBobby Brown had no idea Whitney Houston was taking drugs before she died.

The 48-year-old singer died in Beverly Hills in February from accidental drowning caused by cocaine use and heart failure, and although her former husband Bobby has been widely blamed for introducing her to illegal substances, he claims he has been clean for seven years and was shocked to discover Whitney was still taking drugs.

"It's just unexplainable .. how one could, you know, (say that I) got her addicted to drugs. I'm not the reason she's gone. I was hurt. I was hurt ... because, you know, me being off of narcotics for the last seven years, I felt that she was, you know, I didn't know she was struggling with it still. But at the same time, you know, listen, it's a hard fight. It's a hard fight to, you know, maintain sobriety that way," he told Today's Matt Lauer.

It was claimed after Whitney's death that she and Bobby had been planning to remarry in Las Vegas. Whitney had apparently wanted to reunite with her former husband of 14 years and the pair had decided on an intimate ceremony with their daughter Bobbi Kristina as the only witness.

Whitney Houston’s Death Caused by Accidental Drowning

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Drugs, Obituaries,

Whitney HoustonFoul play has been ruled out in Whitney Houston's death.

The 48-year-old singer was found face down in the bathtub with a bloody nose and the remnants of cocaine nearby at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on February 11 and the Beverly Hills Police Department cited cause of death as accidental drowning, before closing the case today, according to gossip website TMZ.

Although it has been claimed cocaine was removed from her bedroom at the hotel before the authorities arrived to the scene of her death, the BHPD have denied this occurred. According to the final coroner's report, a "small spoon with a white crystal-like substance in it and a rolled up piece of white paper" were found on the counter of Whitney's hotel room, while "remnants of a white powdery substance" were found in a drawer and on the base of a portable mirror. Tests later confirmed the powder to be cocaine.

She had two superficial abrasions on the left side if her forehead, one on the bridge of her nose, and several other small abrasions on her body - although there were no signs of foul play.

Whitney Houston’s Mother Speaks Out

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Obituaries, Rumors,

Cissy HoustonWhitney Houston's mother has still not come to terms with her death.

Cissy Houston, 78, insists her daughter's tragic passing last month in the age of 48 hasn't made her question her religious faith, but she has still not fully accepted the tragedy.

"I have my moments ... I'm not there yet. I am a true believer in God. If I could bring her back I would, but that's not possible," she said.

Cissy praised her "wonderful" daughter and spoke of her pride in the "I Will Always Love You" hitmaker's career achievements: "She accomplished a whole lot in the short time that she had here. She was a wonderful person. She was very special to me. She was my only daughter, and a good one."

The gospel singer believes she did her best to raise Whitney - who had struggled with drug addiction in the past - the right way and doesn't have any regrets. "I know I did the best I could. I don't blame myself. I know I did the best I could for everything."
