David Letterman Returns With Writer Support

David Letterman has accomplished what no other late night host has managed to do: reach an agreement with the writers.  Of course, owning your own company does have its perks.

Letterman and his production company, WorldWide Pants, have been sitting down with the for some time now in hopes of working out a deal.  Late today, the two sides came to terms on an independent agreement that would allow both and to come back on Jan. 2nd.  Although the two talk shows will technically be competing with the returns of Leno, O’Brien and Kimmel, CBS will easily have the advantage.  Letterman and will be the only ones with the scripted jokes.

Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart will also be returning - sans writers - on January 7th.

The Amazing Race: Season 12: “This is Forever, Now”

The Amazing Race

After their brief break in Dubrovnik, the five remaining teams made very early departures toward their next destination: Italy.  To reach the town of Ancona, the groups first had to travel by bus to Split, Croatia.  From there, the racers would jump aboard a ferry and travel across the Adriatic to Ancona, Italy.

Although Ronald and Christina were the first group to hit the road at 2:19 AM, the first bus wasn’t scheduled to leave until 5 AM.  This allowed Kynt/Vxyin and Nathan/Jennifer to catch up with them.  Eventually, Nicolas and Donald – who started off 5 hours later than the first team – even managed to get on the same page.  All the groups ended up being on the same ferry heading out of the country.

Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart Return to Work

Jon Stewart has just announced the January return of its two late-night talk show hosts.  and will ring in their new years on January 7th, five days after Kimmel, Leno and O’Brien have scheduled their starts.  and - like the ABC and NBC programs - will resume production sans writers.  What this means for these ‘news’ shows and their largely scripted formats is unknown.

Stewart and Colbert, who are also members of the , released a joint statement about the decision:

’‘We would like to return to work with our writers. If we cannot, we would like to express our ambivalence, but without our writers we are unable to express something as nuanced as ambivalence.’‘

Meanwhile, we may get details later today about the plans for late-night programs.  company, Worldwide Pants, will be meeting with members of the WGA today.  If they can reach an interim agreement, both and could also be hitting the airwaves - with scribes - come January 2nd.

No matter how you feel about the writers’ situation, what do you think about The Daily Show and The Colbert Report returning?  Could they possibly be as good as they were pre-strike—or do you think the quality will suffer?  Will you simply be happy to see them back regardless of the content?

The Rise And Fall Of Britney Spears: Who’s To Blame?

Posted by David Onda Categories: Editorial, Features, Gossip, Internet, News,

The Evolution of Britney Spears

Forget about and . The year 2007 belonged to . And not in a, “Hey, Britney Spears is the sexiest women alive and sold a lot of records” kind of way. No, it’s more like, “Hey, Britney Spears split from her back-up dancer husband, had her disgusting hoo-ha and c-section scar plastered all over the internet, shaved all her hair off, lost custody of her children and had a comeback performance/album that bombed.” Yeah, she’s had that kind of year. And frankly, I’m pretty freakin’ tired of seeing her face every time I turn on the TV or go online and having to listen to every step of the “Britney custody saga” reported as legitimate news.

This woman is a disaster. Let’s make that point very clear from the outset. She is clearly a very unstable woman in need of some very serious help, and she’s not getting it. And now that it’s being reported that yet another member of the Spears clan has her tin-roof rusted, I think we need to take a step back and take a look at the big picture. Who is really to blame for the downfall of one of the biggest names and faces in, not only music, but pop culture as a whole? Who is responsible for the destruction of Britney Spears?

Jay Leno and will be returning to work directly after the holidays, with new episodes scheduled to air Wednesday, January 2. They’ll be bringing entertainment back to TV, something that’s been sorely missing since the started.

An spokesperson said that Leno and O’Brien still support their writers, but by returning to work will give hundreds of people the chance to do their jobs. Of course, the late night variety programs will go on the air sans writers, so there’s no telling what fans will get. Currently, no guests have been announced for either program.

Meanwhile, and his company, Worldwide Pants, are hoping to broker a deal with the WGA.  If the parties can work out an arrangement independent of the dispute with the producers, the and the could soon also be returning with writers.

Gossip Girl

MONDAY (12/17)
  • (ABC, 8pm):  The first of six-airings this week.  In this game show, the contestants ‘challenge each other’s intellect and skill, but a single wrong answer disqualifies them from trying for the $1.5 million prize.’  Seriously - if a show is going to be named ‘Duel’, it should involve body blows.
  • (NBC, 8pm):  This four-part series brings us Michael Bolton, Patti LaBelle, Nick Lachey and Kelly Rowland.  Surprisingly, this combo is not part of some program.
  • (ABC, 9pm):  “Eric must organize a baby party without ruining friendships.”  His pals are all hoping they don’t have to come.
  • (NBC, 10pm):  “Dan is sent to rescue a mother and son in an RV hanging from a cliff.”  Just for clarification—do his travels always predate the existence of 911?

‘Lost’ Comes to ABC Thursdays

LostGood news, fans.  has finally announced the show’s 2008 premiere date:  Thursday, Jan. 31st.

That’s right. Thursday.  The series will finally be moving to a plum day of the week.  Granted, a few other programs will be going into repeats by that time —- but I have a feeling the producers won’t be complaining about a hand-me-down time slot.

Lost will air in former 9pm shift.  It’s January debut will then be followed by ABC’s mid-season replacement, , @ 10pm.
