Little goblins wanting their candy fix and a night full of reruns kept audiences away.
8pm
- Pushing Daisies (8.5 million, 2.6/8 in 18-49 demo) was down almost 1 million from last week.
- Kid Nation (6.9 million, 2.0/6) lost a good portion of its audience to trick-or-treating.
- A 2-hour Phenomenon (2.3/7) conjured up only 6.4 million viewers.
- America’s Next Top Model, Back To You and ‘Til Death were all repeats.
9pm
- Private Practice (11.2 million, 3.8/10 in 18-49) had the night’s best demo performance.
- Criminal Minds (14.7 million, 3.5/9) had the evening’s largest audience.

Tuesday Ratings: Fans Nostalgic For ABC’s ‘Great Pumpkin’

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Animation, Comedy, Daytime, Drama, Kids, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, Specials, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Dancing With The Stars, House, Ratings,
I have a feeling after last night’s great numbers, we’ll still be seeing Linus sitting in that pumpkin patch next year. Although FOX’s Tuesday lineup had the best demos, the classic Halloween special helped ABC attract the largest audience.
8pm
- Although it was slightly down from last week, NCIS (16.3 million, 3.3/9 in 18-49 demo) had the hour’s largest audience.
- It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (11.4 million, 3.8/11) easily outperformed the usual Cavemen/Carpoolers numbers.
- Bones (8.9 million, 3.2/9) took a backseat to Snoopy.
- The Biggest Loser (6.3 million, 2.8/7) and The Singing Bee (5.8 million, 1.7/5) both declined from last week.
- Beauty and the Geek (2.3 million, 1.1/3) was down almost a million.
9pm
- At 18.8 million, Dancing With The Stars (4.3/10 in 18-49 demo) had the hour’s largest audience.
- House (17.2 million, 7.0/17) still outperformed in the demos.
- The Unit (2.8/7) came in third with 8.1 million viewers.
- CW’s Reaper (2.5 million, 1.1/3) was about even with last week.
10pm
- Thanks to a repeat on NBC, Boston Legal (11.2 million, 3.0/8 in 18-49 demo) had the hour’s best audience.
- A repeat of Law and Order: SVU (8.7 million, 3.0/8) still came in second.
- Surprisingly, Cane (8.1 million, 2.0/5) held on steady from last Tuesday.

America’s Next Top Model: Cycle 9: The Girl Who Gets A Mango

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, The CW, America’s Next Top Model, Editorial, Features,

Note to future contestants: If you want to become America’s Next Top Model, it would be advisable to learn something from your time before the judges. Realizing she received a loud wake-up call at the last elimination, Ambreal made a call of her own —to her dad for a little prayer. Hoping to break from her side-profile tendencies, Heather sought posing advice from a surprisingly friendly Bianca. Then there was sour-faced Ebony. Although she felt her personality was far from dry (is that better than having a ‘prickly’ personality like Victoria?), she vowed to smile more for the judges.
Interrupting a lazy day at home, Jenah opened up the front door to welcome a surprise guest. Much to the shaggy-haired model’s dismay, the hunky Tyson Beckford was standing right in front of her. As the news rippled through their pad (Testosterone in the house! Testosterone in the house!), bursts of shrieks and screams could be heard. Once the girls were all quieted down, they all gathered round to listen to whatever he had to say. The world-famous male model was sent by Tyra for a purpose: he was there to give them tips on being a spokesmodel. For their instruction, Tyson asked the ladies to grab any object out of the kitchen. The goal was for them to promote any product thrown their way. Interestingly enough, not only did he not demonstrate his own selling techniques, he apparently told them to sound like phone-sex operators. From popsicles to glasses and mangoes, the ladies pimped their products without any shame…and Tyson loved every minute of it. (I’m sure the CoverGirl reps will appreciate what the future winner ends up bringing to their table.)

The one-two punch from FOX’s sports coverage helped the network take Sunday’s win (followed by ABC, NBC and CBS).

‘Viva Laughlin’ Canceled; ‘The Amazing Race’ Returns

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Music, Prime Time, CBS, Cancellations,
Hugh Jackman has had hits in the theaters (X-Men) and on Broadway (The Boy from Oz), but his mark on television will have to wait. Jackman served as the executive producer of Viva Laughlin—the first significant cancellation of the fall season.
Yes, you could argue that Nashville technically earned that dubious honor, but Fox claimed the show was returning in October (yeah—I know it’s gone). Then there was that small CW show, Online Nation. The pseudo-news program that really didn’t exist was just replaced by reruns of Aliens in America. Regardless, I can safely say that Viva was the first ‘scripted’ show to go kaput.
After only one week on air (granted, there were two episodes), CBS put the brakes on the musical drama. Many who saw Thursday’s overnight ratings predicted this day would come—though I’m not sure they imagined it would arrive so soon. Unfortunately, Viva’s second dismal performance last night drove the nail in its coffin.
The good news from all of this? Fans of The Amazing Race will get to see their beloved show return even earlier than expected. It will now take over the vacant 8pm Sunday time slot starting November 4th (a CSI rerun will warm the spot until then). While I feel bad for Hugh Jackman, I’d happily take Phil Keoghan over him any day of the week.
