On Gear Live: Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold Long-Term Review: Still Worth It?

Alec Baldwin Oh, Alec. You’ve really let me down. After I’ve posted numerous blogs about your genius on 30 Rock… after watching yet another brilliant episode last night and wondering why people dislike you… I wake up this morning to read the news about the voicemail message you left for your daughter. Bad, bad Baldwin. If you haven’t heard yet, TMZ.com posted a voicemail message that Baldwin left for his 11-year-old daughter, Ireland. Apparently she missed their scheduled phone call and he went on a rant that included calling her a “rude little pig” and saying “You have humiliated me for the last time.” Oh, my heart just sank—I thought it must be some kind of joke. But, afraid not. Baldwin’s rep quickly made a statement that he “acknowledges that he should have used different language in parenting his child” but that “everyone who knows him privately knows what he has been put through for the past six years.” Uh, I don’t know—yes, he’s been through a lot fighting for custody of Ireland for three years (and the public will never really know the scope of his feud with Kim Basinger), but that’s no reason for speaking that way to your child. I’ve been over at the 30 Rock section of the NBC. com website and there are plenty of comments that people will not watch the show any longer and that Baldwin should be fired.

My Name is Earl Here’s one of those clever little marketing campaigns that I can’t wait to see—during May sweeps, My Name is Earl will debut a feature called Laugh ‘n’ Sniff for the May 3rd episode. How do you take part in this revolutionary TV viewing experience? Look no further than your nearest issue of TV Guide during that week for a special scratch-and-sniff card. No word yet on what kind of scents viewers can anticipate sniffling in during the supersized episode, but Earl will be taking his first job at an appliance store. Also on tap for May sweeps at NBC are plenty of supersized Thursday night shows. Man, I love those extra long shows. Be on the lookout for Earl, The Office, and Scrubs extended episodes, as well as one-hour season finales of The Office and Scrubs on May 17th. May can’t come soon enough for me.

Ashton Kutcher I don’t know if any of you are planning to tune into The Real Wedding Crashers on Monday. I’m on the fence about this hidden camera show from Ashton Kutcher, but the latest review has me thinking I may just skip it. The good news is that this midseason series is only six episodes long. The better news is that it’s probably the last we’ll see of it. The 10 p.m. time slot for NBC seems to be where shows go to die. Remember Studio 60 and The Black Donnellys? Yeah, what happened to them? And are they ever coming back? I know I may be in the minority here, but I would really like some closure to Studio 60. OK, back to this wedding crasher show—five crashers work with the bride and groom to prank the guests. Hidden cameras capture all the hijinx. I guess the couple in on the joke would have to love a good prank—why else would you ruin your wedding day?

Steve CarellIf you watched last week’s episode of The Office called “The Negotiation,” you likely got a few laughs off of Michael Scott’s use of Wikipedia for his negotiating tactics. Wikipedia has become the go-to source for information, but most people take it with a grain of salt. Not clueless Michael Scott, who seemed to worship the knowledge site and rely heavily on its advice, saying, “Wikipedia is the best thing ever. Anyone in the world can write anything they want about any subject. So you know you are getting the best possible information.” So, with the exposure on The Office, you can bet that Wikipedia saw a jump in traffic—so much so that the site had to put the negotiation topic on lockdown after visitors started to add tactics that Michael Scott had talked about during the episode. “It’s definitely the result of that episode,” Wikipedia spokeswoman Sandra Ordonez said Thursday.

NBC LogoSigh. The reality show possibilities have really taken off, huh? Hold on, because NBC is promising to serve up loads of reality this summer with the return of America’s Got Talent, Last Comic Standing and The Biggest Loser, plus Age of Love, a new dating show. To shake things up a bit, the three returning shows will have new hosts. You may have already heard that Jerry Springer will be filling Regis Philbin’s shoes on Talent, beginning on May 29th at 9 p.m. After a two hour debut, the show moves to Tuesday at 8 p.m. Last Comic Standing finally brings in a fresh host to replace Anthony Clark—and although I’d rather see Jay Mohr come back, instead hosting duties go to Bill Bellamy. To which I say “eh, could be worse.” Comic starts its fifth season on June 13th at 9 p.m. The Biggest Loser will now be hosted by soap opera queen Alison Sweeney (taking over for Caroline Rhea). No word yet on when the show will start. And finally, a new dating show called Age of Love debuts on June 18th at 10 p.m. with Mrs. Kelly Ripa (Mark Consuelos) hosting.

Remote Control It’s April, and that can only mean one thing: winter seasons are winding down so that new summer shows can blaze their way onto TV screens. But this year’s shows might not have enough spark to create a blaze…or even much warmth. This year’s summer shows from most major networks and cable channels center around new reality plots, as the summer season is always rife with new reality. Looking forward to summer renewals like Hell’s Kitchen, The Simple Life, and Kyle XY? Most summer favorites will be back for another run at big ratings, including Ghost Hunters (Sci-Fi Network), The Closer (TNT), and America’s Got Talent (NBC). But most networks are banking on brand-new shows to grab viewer attention, not old favorites. What’s fresh, new, and exciting about the summer season this year? If intense drama and reality melodrama appeal to you, then you’re all set for some great TV watching. Check out early previews on some of summer’s new, highly hyped, series.

Tom SelleckWith the announcement that James Caan was leaving NBC’s Las Vegas, fans of the show were in a bit of a tizz. Never fear, another manly-man will be taking on the challenge of filling Caan’s big shoes. Selleck, famous for Magnum, P.I. and his adorable mustache, is in talks to take on the role as the new owner of the Montecito Resort & Casino. Time will tell if Selleck can save the series after Caan’s departure to return to big screen projects. And, oh yeah, the show is also looking to fill Nikki Cox’s vacancy, so be on the lookout for another hottie to come strolling into the casino. Regulars Josh Duhamel, Molly Sims, James Lesure and Vanessa Marcil are all still on board for the upcoming fifth season.

Andy Richter So, this doesn’t look like good news for Andy Barker, P.I.—it’s moving to Saturdays. The kiss of death, perhaps, but at least NBC is keeping it on the schedule and not pulling it altogether. The likelihood of renewal is slim to none for this ratings dud, which earned the title of NBC’s lowest-rated series this season. Me, I like it. I love Andy Richter and I’m glad to see Arrested Development‘s Tony Hale back on TV. But I can also see where this quirky comedy could fail to deliver to a mainstream audience. So, if you’ve been following along with this series, be warned that the final two episodes will air back-to-back on Saturday, April 14th at 8 p.m. You’d think for two little episodes, they could have kept it on Thursday, huh? Scrubs will fill in for the 9:30 p.m. Thursday slot, then move back to 9 p.m. in May.

Will Ferrell Who knew that there were Saturday Night Live documentaries in existence? Well, it’s news to me, and I consider myself a pretty diehard SNL fan. Through good times and bad, I’ve watched… So, I just read that NBC has ordered a documentary about the show during the 1990s. Cool, I thought, then I read that there were two previous documentaries. Huh? Guess I’ve got to hunt those down because I love that behind-the-scenes kind of stuff. This latest edition is called Saturday Night Live in the ‘90s: Pop Culture Nation and promises to be “funny, dramatic and filled with great clips and new interviews featuring the biggest comedy stars of today. These are the backstage stories that made headlines.” What makes this great will be interviews of former cast members and writers—Mike Myers, Tina Fey, Will Ferrell, Cheri Oteri, Chris Rock, Molly Shannon, Tim Meadows and Jimmy Fallon. You can catch the documentary on May 6th.

Alec Baldwin I can barely hide my excitement over this piece of renewal news… 30 Rock will be back next season!! If you haven’t seen it yet, please do yourself a huge favor and check it out. If you have seen it and are a fan, then join me in a happy dance. And if you just plain don’t like 30 Rock (but how could you not?), then I’m sorry that this news will not brighten your day. While it seemed that 30 Rock would definitely get picked up, it’s nice to hear the official news anyway. OK, the ratings aren’t great, but the writing is smart and the performances are great. Alec Baldwin can do no wrong and Tina Fey is really refreshing and funny. Even NBC Entertainment chief Kevin Reilly loves it, saying, “From the beginning, 30 Rock has proven to be the kind of quality comedy that doesn’t come around very often, and we are very pleased to have this show back for a second season. We expect it to continue to build its increasingly loyal audience and become another of NBC’s classic comedy series.” Interestingly enough, NBC calls this an “upscale” show because of the concentration of viewers with six figure household incomes. Catch 30 Rock when it returns this Thursday at 8:40 for a super-sized episode.
