Vanessa Hudgens Lawsuit Trouble
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Kids, Music, Talk Shows, Cable, Gossip, Rumors,
Already wondering if she’ll be cashing another paycheck from Disney, Vanessa Hudgens is now facing a different financial matter. According to TMZ, the High School Musical star is reportedly delinquent in paying her attorney’s legal fees. Of the $5 million he’s apparently helped her secure, lawyer Brad Schall claims he is still owed $150,000. One sold photo could take care of all that.
On a side note—our latest girl done wrong has provided my favorite ‘Quote of the Week’ thus far. During an interview on The Tyra Banks Show yesterday (something taped before her scandal), Vanessa said: “I’m very low-key. I keep my personal life to myself.”
No further comment needed.

Mary-Louise Parker’s Adoption News
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Award Shows, Drama, Cable, Showtime, Cable/Satellite,
It’s a girl for Mary-Louise Parker, star of Showtime’s Weeds. The actress, who has a three-year-old son, Will, with her ex Billy Crudup, just adopted a baby from Africa. If you watched the Emmys or read any of the recap info, you know that Parker didn’t win either of the two Emmys she was nominated for this year—for her portrayal as Nancy Botwin on Weeds and for a TV movie role in The Robber Bride. Parker last took home the Emmy award in 2004 for her work on HBO’s Angels in America miniseries. She and Crudup split while Parker was still pregnant with her son, but she told People magazine after his birth, “There are a lot of things I just would not attempt, but taking care of someone—I know how to do. I know how to do that, and I enjoy doing that.” Parker can currently be seen in season three of Weeds as well as opposite Brad Pitt in The Assassination of Jesse James, opening this Friday.

Will Ferrell on HBO Payroll
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Cable, HBO, Cable/Satellite, Internet,
It’s official—the murmurings of a Will Ferrell/Adam McKay comedy on HBO is now a reality. HBO has picked up the series East Bound and Down from the funny men’s production company. The show centers on a ball player who is washed up and returns to his hometown to work as a substitute gym teacher. The Hollywood Reporter reports that six episodes of the show have been greenlit and Ferrell and McKay are on board as executive producers. The lead role of Kenny Powers will be played by Danny R. McBride, who was seen in this summer’s film Hot Rod. No word on whether or not Ferrell will make an appearance, but it’s probably a safe bet that he’ll pop up in some cameo. The air date has yet to be announced. For now, get your fill of all things Ferrell/McKay funny at www.funnyordie.com, where of course, you can see the fan fave of “The Landlord,” starring McKay’s natural comedienne of a daughter Pearl. But be warned—you can waste a good chunk of time poking around at the funny stuff there. Like I just did… watching “FCU with Bill Murray.” Check it out.

The 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards Coverage
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Action, Animation, Award Shows, Comedy, Drama, Mini Series, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, Specials, ABC, Bravo, Cable, CBS, FX, FOX, HBO, NBC, Showtime, 24, Amazing Race, The, American Idol, Daily Show, The, Dancing With The Stars, Desperate Housewives, Entourage, Extras, Family Guy, Grey’s Anatomy, Heroes, House, Lost, Medium, My Name Is Earl, Scrubs, Saturday Night Live, Survivor, The Office, The Sopranos, Top Chef,
The 59th Annual Emmy Awards has not even started, yet I’m already sensing sensing a weird vibe about tonight’s telecast. Will the show be a celebration of those young and new (e.g. Heroes)? Will it be a tribute to those bowing out (James Gandolfini and crew)? Or will performer Kanye West somehow manage to cast a controversial shadow over the rest of the ceremony?
What a difference a year makes. Twelve months ago, we were still handing out trophies to stars from Will & Grace and The West Wing (those shows feel so five-years ago now). Today, we welcome a new crop of nominees including Ugly Betty and 30 Rock for Best Comedy. Last year, we were entertained by an always-hilarious Conan O’Brien. This year, we are threatened by a song and dance number from this year’s host, Ryan Seacrest. Last August, 24 snagged the award for Best Drama. This September, it’s not even nominated (yet somehow Boston Legal is).
I think it would be safe to assume the voters would predictably (and respectfully) shower The Sopranos with honors, but I’ll still be crossing my fingers for an upset sometime tonight. We’ll need something to talk about tomorrow…
Here’s the play-by-play of tonight’s events coming to you from the neglected West Coast!

More Vanessa Hudgens Photos Released
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Kids, Late Night, Music, Cable, NBC, Gossip,
As we reported earlier, Vanessa Hudgens canceled a scheduled appearance on The Tonight Show yesterday. While it was safe to assume she was still embarrassed about her infamous nudie pic, it turns out she may have been reacting to another round of photos altogether.
Former friends everywhere have been opening up their shoeboxes and sharing their favorite stills of the High School Musical star. The latest ones released yesterday, reminiscent of the racy photos Lindsay Lohan took with Vanessa Minnillo, at least have her fully clothed this time. One photo shows Vanessa almost connecting tongues with another girlfriend while a second apparently shows her touching a friend’s breast.
We can only hope Disney was apprised of all her photos before they issued their (weak) statement of support; I don’t imagine they will stop coming out of the woodwork anytime soon.

What Went Wrong with Britney’s VMA Performance?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Award Shows, Music, Reality, Cable, MTV, Talent, Gossip, Rumors,
If you’ve somehow missed the disparaging comments about Britney Spears on stage at the VMAs, you’re a better person than me – because I’ve found it’s totally unavoidable. The first day, the comments centered on Brit’s off-beat performance, her lethargic dance moves, and her completely lackluster stage presence. The second day, the news was filled with remarks about Brit’s body. The songstress has never been afraid to show off what she’s got, but critics are saying the mother of two should be covering it up instead. Video of Brit’s performance is absolutely everywhere for those that missed the MTV broadcast, and for those who just want to have a good laugh a second time around. Several reporters claim to have “the real story” behind the big B-bomb that landed on stage during award night. But does anyone, other than Spears herself, really know what went wrong?

Censors Edit Kathy Griffin Emmy Speech
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Award Shows, Reality, Cable, Gossip, Spoilers,
Kathy Griffin’s Emmy acceptance speech, which was taped, will be edited before it airs on the upcoming E! channel broadcast. E! will show the taped portion of the Emmys on Saturday, though the prime time Emmys will be broadcast live on FOX Sunday night. In a Monday statement, The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences called Griffin’s remarks “offensive” and said they would not be part of the E! telecast. Here’s what Griffin said: “A lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus.” She then held up her word and announced, “This award is my god now!” Religious critics are already calling Griffin’s words a “hate speech” and “blasphemous.”

Rachael Ray’s Search for a Top Chef
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Daytime, Food & Home, Prime Time, Talk Shows, Cable, Syndication,
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again—Rachael Ray has “accessible” all sewn up. Really, can you think of any other television personality that is as all-around accepted as Rachael Ray? Even if you’re not a big fan of hers, there is no denying that she is on the fast track to fame. And it’s all because she just has that nice girl, easy-going vibe that so many people connect with. Heck, even my kids look forward to watching her cooking show on Food Network. I could do without her many abbreviations and terms (“EVOO” and “Yummo” come to mind), but I watch her shows and have one of her cookbooks. I’m not a big fan of her talk show because she just seems like she’s whacked out on caffeine or something. It’s too hyper for me. Anyway, she’s looking for the next great chef, er… well, cook in her search called “So You Think You Can Cook?” on her talk show. According to Ray, “We just want to give a person — a real person, not a chef or somebody specially trained to do this for a living — a shot at showing everybody their personality and how much fun you can have with food.” Seems that’s a recipe that Ray can relate to, as she’s never had any formal training and has built her empire largely on her personality. She and show producers will whittle the cooks down to five, then they go through the rigors of two weeks of competition before the winner is crowned in November. And, what does the winner take away from this? The lucky cook gets to co-host Rachael Ray’s show (just for a day) and will receive training at a U.S. culinary institute. Also, one of their recipes will be in her magazine, Every Day With Rachael Ray.

‘Top Chef’ Star Victim of Anti-Gay Violence
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Reality, Bravo, Cable, Top Chef, News,
The Labor Day Weekend was unfortunately not a festive one for a former Top Chef contestant. Josie Smith-Malave, the 4th person eliminated last season, claims that she and several of her friends were victims of an anti-gay assault after a birthday celebration earlier this month.
The gals had been partying at Partners Bar in Sea Cliff, NY but were asked to leave when two of the ladies starting ‘dancing together’. (Seriously…‘Partners’ isn’t the name of a gay bar?) As they headed out, a large group followed them outside. From there, the suspects reportedly spat, hurled homophobic insults, threw garbage and started beating on the women. Josie, who is openly gay, says her straight sister was one of the victims. Although the ladies were bruised up, no serious injuries were reported.
Police were called to the scene and are still investigating the incident. Although a few of the accused assailants were still present when officers arrived, no arrests have yet been made.
The current season of Top Chef can still be seen on Wednesdays @ 10pm on Bravo.
UPDATE: Police have since arrested one person related to this incident. Matthew Walli, 20, has been charged with ‘second-degree robbery as a bias crime’ (he had stolen Smith-Malave’s camera). More arrests may still come.
