Time Warner removes Fox, Viacom, and Discovery channels from iPad App
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Corporate News, Home Entertainment, Software,

Amidst a controversy over streaming rights, Time Warner Cable has agreed to remove content from Fox Cable Networks, Viacom, and Discovery from its iPad app.
All three networks were "willing to threaten to sue over it," Jeff Simmermon, director of digital communications at Time Warner Cable, wrote in a blog post, so Time Warner has pulled the networks from its iPad streaming for the time being.
Specifically, Time Warner will remove streaming access to 11 channels: Animal Planet, BET, CMT, Comedy Central, Discovery Channel, FX, MTV, National Geographic, Nickelodeon, Spike, and VH1.
Time Warner still maintains that it has "every right" to stream content from these channels via its iPad app, but said it will focus its iPad efforts "on those enlightened programmers who understand the benefit and importance of allowing our subscribers - and their viewers - to watch their programming on any screen in their homes."

Samsung starts mass producing transparent LCD panels
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Corporate News, Displays, HDTV,

Samsung announced today that it has become the first company to begin mass production of transparent LCD panels.
The panels, which measure 22 inches across the diagonal, support resolutions up to 1,680-by-1,050, have 500:1 contrast ratios, and are available in both color and black-and-white models.
Samsung claims that the panels offer the world's highest transparency rate: over 20 percent for the black-and-white variety, and over 15 percent for color. (The company says that conventional LCD panels with a backlight unit have only 5 percent transparency.)
According to Samsung, because panels with higher transparency rates are better able to utilize ambient light, the company's new panels consume up to 90 percent less electricity compared to traditional LCD monitors.

Glee’s Lea Michele Victim of Hit and Run
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Television, Drunk,
Lea Michele, Glee’s reigning diva, was hit by a car on Friday morning.
Michele was driving on Melrose Avenue in LA, on her way home from work, when she was hit by a car driven by “a couple of drunk girls,” according to an unnamed source. The source says that after the collision, the girls “got out of the car, giggled that she [Lea Michele] was famous, and said something like ‘are you drunk, too?’ Then, they drove off.”
The actress called the police after the accident, but she is not injured and “is fine,” according to her rep. In any event, Michele is a trooper. The former Broadway star was famously involved in a car crash while on her way to her Glee audition and “ran into the audition with cuts and glass in my hair.”
And still managed to completely wow everyone in the room when she sang “On My Own” to secure the starring role on the successful show.

Showtime Picks Up Chew Script
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Television, Image Comics,
Tony Chu will soon be taking literal bites out of crime... on TV.
Showtime recently purchased a script -- written by Terri Hughes Burton and Ron Milbauer -- based off of John Layman and Rob Guillory's Chew, which chronicles FDA Agent Chu's detective work, primarily performed thanks to the psychic impressions he receives from eating things (which aren't always the most edible).
Circle of Confusion, the company behind fellow Image TV adaptation The Walking Dead, is fueling the project, which Stephen Hopkins is set to direct and executive produce.
While I imagined back-to-back marathons of Chew and The Walking Dead on AMC, I take comfort in the fact that Chew has found its TV home at Showtime, which has seen a show centering on a serial killer continue past five seasons.
The biggest question, of course, is whether or not Ken Leung will be cast as Tony...

Dave Grohl: Not Everyone Loves Glee
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Artist News, Gossip, Alternative,
“I watched 10 minutes [of Glee]. It’s not my thing,” Foo Fighters front man Dave Grohl doesn’t want any of his songs to be re-classified as “showtunes” any time soon… or, ever. In a candid, f-word-laced interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the singer bluntly stated his dislike for Glee and for series co-creator Ryan Murphy.
It’s not the first time Murphy has drawn the ire of those in the music industry. He had a well-publicized press battle with Kings of Leon, who originally rejected Glee when the show asked for the right to use some of their songs.
“It’s every band’s right, you shouldn’t have to do [expletive deleted] Glee,” Grohl said. “And then the guy who created Glee [Ryan Murphy] is so offended that we’re not, like, begging to be on his [expletive deleted] show.”
“The Glee guy, what a [expletive deleted] jerk,” Grohl went on. “It’s just like, dude, maybe not everyone loves Glee. Me included.”

Billy Ray Cyrus: Divorce Dropped
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Television, Divorce, Child Stars, Rumors, Where Are They Now?,
“I want to put my family back together,” Billy Ray Cyrus, one-hit wonder and father to Miley Cyrus, will tell The View on Friday. “Things are the best they’ve ever been.” Thanks to the recent progress, Billy Ray will put a halt to his divorce plans and stay in his marriage (which, so far, has lasted 17 years).
“I feel like I got my Miley back, in a way,” he revealed at the Thursday taping. “I feel like we are the daddy and daughter that we were before Hannah Montana happened.” Minus a few years, some questionable photos and a salvia-smoking scandal, of course.
Billy Ray and wife Tish issued a joint statement about their disintegrating marriage in October. In a later interview with GQ, the country singer blamed Hannah Montana for “destroying” his family.
But on The View, he’ll change his tune. “I don’t think Hannah Montana ruined my family,” he backpedaled. “Now fame, fame is a different animal. You’ve got to be careful with that thing.” Or, so he’s heard.

Casey Abrams has finally broken his silence regarding his health problems. The American Idol contestant (Top 12 and counting) nearly missed his shot at reality stardom when he was hospitalized following a rehearsal early in the contest, and he was absent from the Top 13 results show because of a second hospitalization.
