Bleeding Edge TV 305: An in-depth look at LASIK (Episode 2)

We are bringing you an in-depth look at in our three-part , thanks to Lasik Plus.

In our last episode, we brought you the first in our three part series on LASIK, where we hit you with our definitive LASIK FAQ video. At the end, we told you that in the next video, it was surgery time - and here we are.

We continue following Monica through her LASIK experience, this time bringing our cameras in the operating room. We get the scoop on the different lasers that are used, and what each one does, and the doctors go into expectations of what one would feel during LASIK surgery. Then, it’s showtime, as the LASIK surgery begins. We bring you some extreme close-ups, so if you get squeamish with these kinds of things, you may want to cover your eyes, and the eyes of your loved ones. Monica even gives us a nice voiceover during the procedure, so that she can tell us how she was feeling during the procedure itself.

In our next episode, we continue the LASIK series, as Monica goes in for her follow-up appointment.

New Zealand Doctor Claims Carbs Are Addictive

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Science,

Chunky CharactersGood news for those who insist that their spare tire is due to genetics. That is not quite the case, but a New Zealand scientist claims that carbohydrates may be as addictive as cigarettes, giving us a new excuse. He claims that heavily processed carbs found in as cereal and desserts raise the amount of sugar in blood. The result is that the sugar rush stimulates the same part of the brain that involves nicotine addiction. Dr.Thornley says that more studying is needed but that so far his research shows that those with a high body mass index have fewer brain pleasure receptors like in those who are addicted to cocaine and alcohol.

Rihanna faints during Australia concert

It seems that all the leather and chains in the world won’t help you when your body is telling you that something’s wrong, as Rihanna found out during a recent performance in Australia. She was performing her hit Umbrella with Chris Brown, when she stumbled to the side of the stage and fainted. Chris tried to cover, continuing to sing his part, but you know he had to have felt quite a bit of concern over his fallen Boo. Towards the end of the video, you hear someone yelling for paramedics. Scary. Rihanna’s rep issued the following statement, basically saying that she is perfectly fine:

“It was very hot at the venue, so after Rihanna’s set was over, she went off stage to sit down, catch her breath and have some water. She is perfectly healthy and will be at her show tomorrow.”

DWTS’ Lacey Schwimmer Also Diagnosed with Endometriosis

Lacey Schwimmer on Dancing with the StarsJust days after Julianne Hough announced her leave of absence, we’re learning that another DWTS professional has been diagnosed with endometriosis.

According to The Insider, just discovered that she too had this medical condition. Strangely enough, Julianne was the reason Lacey found out.

Once the 20-year-old realized she had symptoms similar to the ones Hough had, she went in for an evaluation. Her doctor informed her yesterday of the news. Fortunately for Lacey (and Lance), her situation will not require surgery. Because the condition was diagnosed early, medication is the only thing necessary at this time. Meanwhile, Julianne has already undergone surgery and is reportedly “at home resting comfortably.”

Endometriosis is the development of uterine-lining tissue outside the uterus on the surfaces of organs in the pelvis or abdomen where they are not supposed to grow. It is a common medical condition found in 5-10% of women of reproductive age around the world.

As it was, the performer went in for a check-up right before the start of her 2005 concert tour only to be told that “everything was fine.”  Three years later, she is currently in remission.

“Because someone’s in a big white coat and using big medical instruments, doesn’t necessarily mean they’re right.”

Well, Kylie—let us just say that you are looking absolutely fabulous today.  We wish the best of luck to you.
