Brush Your Teeth With Hannah Montana
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Smart Home, Misc. Tech, Music,
File this one under anything to make a buck. We can handle a Bono iPod, or an Armani cell phone, but a Miley Cyrus Toothbrush? The harder you brush, the louder it “sings” for up to a total of 2 minutes of “Pumpin’ Up the Party.” We’re not sure we can deal with that much of the tween idol at one time, but thank goodness after you invest in the brush for $9.99, both the brush head and batteries are non-replaceable. Ashley Tisdale and Hilary Duff models are also available at Hasbro. We think we will wait for a more rocking version, perhaps with the Stones’ “Mother’s Little Helper.”

How do you turn a small business into a multi-million dollar operation? In Gary Vaynerchuk’s case you create a podcast from the back of your Wine Library, extolling the virtues of various selected types, and then selling them over the Internet. The business was started by his parents, and Gary became an aficionado of the fruit of the vine as a teen. Based in Springfield, New Jersey, he airs his opinions three times a week, and refuses to use the terms and descriptions of most connoisseurs. He will also taste real items, such as dirt and rocks, to compare the taste. Gary is hoping that his Internet lessons will make wine more popular at sporting events. We are not sure that Merlot really goes with stadium hot dogs.

Tiny Capsuli Emits Bright Light
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Design, Smart Home, Misc. Tech, Transportation,
The Capsuli is an LED Emergency Kit designed by Ukseop Jeong and Hanna Son. The capsules are palmsize and emit light with a simple twist. They are housed on a pad containing solar cells, so there is no worry about running out of batteries in the middle of a hurricane. Only a prototype, we hope that this will eventually become a staple of home and car first aid kits, since we never seem able to keep flashlights working when we really need them.

Pillow Decreases Snoring
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Design, Smart Home, Misc. Tech, Software,
Daryoush Bazargani snores. How convenient that he just happens to be a computer science professor at the University of Rostock in Germany. He has come up with a special pillow and attached it to a computer on his nightstand that analyzes the noise. The computer then creates or takes away pockets of air within the pillow. The result that it eases nasal airflow to minimize snoring. Still in the prototype stage, we are up for any solution that results in less noise pollution when we are trying to crash.

iRobot is at it again. This time, the Roomba folks have come up with the Looj. Designed for the single task of gutter cleaning, the bot works with standard K-style vinyl, aluminum, copper, or other metal. The company claims that it cleans a 60 ft. section in about ten minutes. The basic model 120 will set you back $99.99 from iRobot, with two other models available with optional holster and/or extra battery pack. We suspect that the name came from the luge, the Olympic sled, but wouldn’t take any bets on it until we see our neighborhood squirrels facing off in a Gutter Looj competition.

No More Instant-Edit on Wikipedia
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Corporate News, Smart Home, Internet,
It seems that Wikipedia is finally getting wise to those who would slant articles. The Vatican and Disney were sited as examples of organizations who did just that. “Ordinary” users will no longer be able to edit for instant changes, but instead will be checked out by “trusted editors,” those who “have proven their commitment to Wikipedia by posting 30 reliable changes within 30 days.”
Wait, there’s more. Apparently the CIA has found altered information on former presidents such as Nixon and Reagan. The changes will begin in the German version which supposedly has a higher accuracy rating, and will move on from there.

For those of you that play chess into the wee hours of the morning, Dutch designer Daan Van Tuldur has created a set that is lit by LEDs that are located in the 4 corners of the board. Black and white are replaced by matte and transparent squares, and all the pieces basically have the same shape. Besides this prototype, Van Tuldur has worked on many designs, including HotSpots, arcade-size retro systems geared for the next generation of Atari gamers.

We admit that most of our daily workout involves 20 reps with soup cans and an exercycle that is in a broken no-gear state. So the Power Plate My5 does it all for us. It can adjust to training conditions with a timing display. At a size of 68 x 90 x 150 cm, it comes in silver and black. If the idea of doing real exercise isn’t frightening enough, perhaps the price of €5,350.00 (~$7,617.00) will get that heart to racing.
