If you thought we were done with today’s Sonos news, think again - they’re on a roll, having just announced the availability of Sonos Controller for iPhone and iPod touch, for free. If you’re a Sonos fan, then you immediately understand what this means. If you own an iPhone or iPod touch, you get a touchscreen Sonos controller, at no extra cost. Seriously, that rocks. The new app gives you access to all the new Sonos 2.7 features we told you about earlier as well, like Rhapsody, Sirius, Last.fm, and tons of radio from across the globe. In fact, with the Sonos Controller for iPhone, you can access music from any computer on your network, a NAS drive, or even a Time Capsule. When you realize that one of the standard Sonos Controller remote costs $400, you begin to see how big a deal this is. Releasing this as a free download makes Sonos instantly easier to use, especially in a multi-zone, multi-iPhone household, like mine.

Google Earth Now Available on the iPhone

Google just released a free iPhone/iPod Touch version of its popular Google Earth desktop mapping application. The application allows users to fly around the globe with just the swipe of a finger; tilting the unit adjusts your view, zoom in or out by simply pinching your fingers. The new app also integrates geo-located Wikipedia articles – fly to the pyramids, and read all about them, all while riding the bus to work. Check out the video above for a look at the functionality.

BlackBerry Bold launching on AT&T at $299 on November 4

By now, you have probably seen the new BlackBerry Bold Commercial, the one that says almost nothing but “wow.” Wow again at the proposed price when it comes out. AT&T has announced that the RIM device will cost $299.99 with a 2 year contract, more than they charge for the iPhone. Sales should begin around November 4 to welcome in the upcoming holidays. The Bold will support international navigation services and Wi-fi for folks who do a lot of traveling. One analyst, Chris King of Stifel Nicolas, says the appeal will be mostly exec types. Those that can probably will.

Samsung Epix i907 Starts Arriving At AT&T Stores

The new AT&T Samsung Epix i907 has been showing up in AT&T stores recently as expected. The phone is basically a Blackjack, but benefits from a touch screen incorporating Haptic feedback, a QWERTY keyboard and optical mouse. The phone uses Windows Mobile 6.1 for the Core OS and supports 850MHz, 1900MHz, 2100MHz HSDPA 3G networks and carries a built-in GPS. The i907 also incorporates a microSD slot, 2 megapixel camera, and costs $199 with a 2 year contract. If the iPhone isn’t your thing because tactile QWERTY keyboard is needed, this may be for you.

Speck has a new line of covers for the iPhone 3G. Their Fitted is a 2-piece, snap together, easy grip design made with an interior soft-touch polycarbonate hard-shell lining. Of course, there is complete access to ports, controls and sensors. So far, only the tan houndstooth check, black-and-white plaid and black herringbone with pinstripes cases are available for $29.95 each, but Speck says that other styles and patterns will be added to the line at a later date.

After some test runs, the software company Runtriz has released the Hotel Evolution. Check into a place that features them, like the Malibu Beach Inn, and the staff will load the application on your iPhone or iPod touch or lend you a unit for your stay. Your room number is the password. Get your suit dry cleaned, arrange for a wake-up call, order room service, or call for extra shampoo. You can also check on local attractions or set the gadget to “Do Not Disturb.” Runtriz also offers touchscreens for bars and restaurants.

Wal-Mart selling iPhone 3G during Black Friday?

You know, as much as we aren’t fan of Wal-Mart, we understand that it helps get products out to the masses. The latest rumor has Wal-Mart selling the iPhone 3G during the lead-up to this years Black Friday. This would make Wal-Mart the second big box retailer in the US to carry the iPhone, with the first being Best Buy. As is the policy with Best Buy, AT&T, and the Apple Store, we’d expect that you would have to activate the iPhone at Wal-mart.
If this rumor proves true, we expect a lot more iPhone 3Gs to be sold this holiday, and by that, we mean even more than the enormous amount that we had already predicted. Hey, AT&T, would you mind beefing up your 3G access a bit more? It’s gonna get crowded.

RIM to Open BlackBerry Application Centers

Not to be outdone by Apple and Google, RIM will be opening their BlackBerry Application Center. The online store will come out with their BlackBerry Storm software 4.7. The data will be stored on carriers’ locales and they are free to pick and choose their own applications. The main screen provides browsing while the application screen will provide a list. We expect this to be quite popular with owners of the smartphone, who can now save face when iPhone and Android owners brag about their new, cool apps.

We already know that the Obama campaign is pretty savvy when it comes to the Internet. His team has further proved their point with the Obama ‘08 free iPhone application. Features include getting stats, connecting with other “friends” receiving local and national news, finding events, viewing videos and photos and finding out how O’Biden (thanks for that one, Sarah) feels about the issues. Available at iTunes App store, the application works with the original and iPhone 3G and iPod touch, and needs the 2.0 software update.
