Modaphones are Designed to Fit in Your Ear—and Match Your iPod nano

Posted by Lolita Beckwith Categories: Accessories, Music, Portable Audio / Video,

Earbuds are the simplest things, but sometimes they can be the biggest annoyance when they don’t fit properly in the ear. V-Moda comes to the rescue with Modaphones, which come in cool colors that actually match the hot-to-trot colors of the new iPod nano. Plus, Modaphones are slightly angled for a better fit (most high-end earbuds are designed this way), and they come with a collection of tips to customize the fit even more. Equally impressive are the specs: the frequency range is 18 hertz to 22,000 hertz, while the bass level is 122 decibels at 20 hertz. Pricing? The Bass Freq and Remix models are $50 USD, while the Vibe (shown) is $100 USD. Available at most online and retail electronic stores, including the Apple store.

BlueQ Bluetooth Wristband Alerts you of Incoming Calls

Posted by Lolita Beckwith Categories: Accessories, Smartphones, Wearables, Wireless / WiFi,
Not everyone wears their cellphone clipped to their jeans. Some of us keep our phone in a tote or handbag, and are thus unable to hear it ring. The folks at BlueQ invented a solution: the Bluetooth Vibrating Wristband, which—you guessed it—vibrates whenever your stowed-away bluetooth-enabled phone receives a call. But wait, there’s more! You can design your own wristband on the company’s website. Just upload the photo of your choice, which will then be printed and applied to your BlueQ. Pricing is not yet available, so stay tuned…

The Cell Phone Stun Gun is Shockingly Deceptive

Posted by Lolita Beckwith Categories: Accessories, Smartphones, Misc. Tech,

We’ve already told you about the No-Contact Jacket for women, which literally gives a shock to potential criminals attempting to assault the wearer. Since you can’t wear a jacket every day, we offer an alternative: the Cell Phone Stun Gun. It looks like your standard phone clipped to your jeans, but the press of a button sends a whopping 800K volts to any unsuspecting cretins, allowing you to make your getaway. And yes, there’s a safety switch, so you won’t accidentally shock yourself if you grab this phone instead of your real Nokia. Ouch. The Cell Phone Stun Gun is available for $60 USD, however the website is prohibited from sending this weapon to a handful of states, for legal reasons.

Make Your Bathroom Sing with the iCarta iPod Toilet Paper Holder

Posted by Lolita Beckwith Categories: Accessories, Smart Home, Music, Portable Audio / Video,
We have another entry in the sometimes wacky world of iPod docks and holders. They’ve invaded our bedrooms, closets, cubicles, backyards...and now the bathroom. Yes, we’re talking about the iCarta Toilet Paper Holder, which holds, charges and plays your iPod while you do your thing. The dock is moisture-resistant, but somehow we don’t think the iPod is, so be careful if taking a hot shower. The iCarta has four stereo speakers, includes an AC adaptor, measures 8x4x5”, and can be used with all iPods with dock connectors. Available for $70 USD, iPod and toilet paper not included.

Paging Tommy Lee: Digital Drumsticks for your iPod

Posted by Lolita Beckwith Categories: Accessories, Misc. Tech, Music, Portable Audio / Video,

Are you a frustrated “air drummer”, tired of all the air guitarists getting all the love, including their own documentary? Well, to cheer you up, we’ve found a device made especially for you: iPod Digital Drumsticks. They’re motion-activated, with a control module that connects to both your iPod (or any MP3 player) and to a stereo system or headphones. You can then hear yourself play to your favorite tune, and the drumsticks have buttons that allow you to play different types of drum or cymbal effects. You also have the option to play along with your choice of six background songs instead of your iPod. Unfortunately, Hammacher Schlemmer has already been inundated with aspiring Ringos, as the $30 USD device is currently sold out. Stay tuned…

iMuffs Headphones Provide Wireless iPod Listening

Posted by Lolita Beckwith Categories: Accessories, Apple, Misc. Tech, Portable Audio / Video,

True story: We were on the NYC subway this morning, and spotted a Wall Street-type wearing what appeared to be wireless headphones, with no MP3 player in sight. Intrigued, we saw an iMuffs logo on the side, and noticed numerous controls on the headset itself. Hmmmmm. After a little Googling, we discovered that iMuffs are indeed wireless headphones, utilizing Bluetooth 2.0 technology! You can listen to your tunes from up to 30 feet away from your iPod, and you can even integrate your Bluetooth cellphone—when you receive a call, your iPod is instantly paused and you can talk through the iMuffs’ microphone. Genius. iMuffs can be charged through a USB port, or with the included charger. The iMuffs range from $150 - $180 USD, depending on the type of iPod you’re using.

I now know why other Gear Livers were raising such a fuss. Tom Bihn’s Imago Messenger Bag, featured here in steel/cork/deep blue, is amazingly functional while being way more than aesthetically pleasing. At a size of 14.5 x 12.25 x 3.5-inches and a weight of only 1 lb., 9 oz., you can fit a laptop (preferably within one of their cells,) and/or a camera with all your accessories inside its roomy olive interior with two pockets. Then again, maybe you can just share the Designer Bag with your cat. There is also a zippered pouch in the front, a pocket in the back, and a ring to clip your car keys (hooray!) or one or more of their organizer pouches.
