Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Reality, Cable, Cable/Satellite,

Dustin Diamond Get ready for the next installment of Celebrity Fit Club on VH1 (I know I can’t wait!)! Now in it’s fifth season, Fit Club has become a fixture in the “Celebreality” lineup. This season offers some promising contestants, including:

  • Dustin Diamond
  • Maureen McCormick
  • Tiffany
  • Da Brat
  • Kimberley Locke
  • Cledus T. Judd
  • Warren G
  • Ross Matthews

I guess I’m most surprised about seeing Maureen McCormick (Marcia, of The Brady Bunch) on the list. Ant returns as host, and Harvey and Dr. Ian Smith will also be back on the panel with help from a new psychotherapist, Stacy Kaiser. My biggest complaint? Those silly giant scales!

VH1 Plans Six New Reality Series

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Music, Reality, Cable, Cable/Satellite,

VH1 logo There can never be enough celebreality, at least not to music station VH1. The network will bring six new reality series, collectively known as VH1’s Wild Life. The focus on this group of series is music—hey, great idea for a music station! Brian Graden, MTV Networks Music Group President said of the new shows, “The breadth of this slate of music-based series illustrates, once again, that VH-1 is the only place for adults to go to see the kinds of music and storytelling that speaks only to them.”

The new shows include: Rags to Riches, Bridging the Gap, Ego Trip’s White Rapper Show, Man Band, and the Irv Gotti Project. No word yet on when the shows will air. Sigh. All of this reality show programming has me longing for the “good ole days” of MTV and VH1—you know, when they actually aired music videos.

Flavor of Love 2 Big Ratings Winner for VH1

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Reality, Cable, Ratings,

Flavor FlavI actually had to read the article twice about Flavor of Love 2—as in, did I just read that Flavor Flav’s finale show has earned the biggest audience ever for VH1? It’s true. Unbelievably true. I’m not sure if anyone reading this has ever seen this show, but to me, it’s just terrible. Maybe the ratings come from that “can’t take my eyes off of this trainwreck” feeling. I can only imagine that’s what it is. I can tolerate a lot of reality shows, but this one is unbearable to me. I’ve flipped past it a couple of times and lingered for about two minutes, including last night’s finale where he made his ultimate choice. Wow. I don’t want to offend anyone, but I can actually feel IQ points dropping when I watch it. So I watched about five minutes of it last night and those are five minutes of my life that I can never get back. But enough about me.

Flavor of Love 2 had 7.5 million viewers. I know… it’s not a typo. That makes it the most watched program ever on VH1 and the number one cable show for the evening. Among the 18-49 set, Flavor of Love was the top-rated non-sports show on cable for 2006. Seems Flav has found his niche—after appearing on The Surreal Life, Strange Love (with Brigitte Nielsen) and two runs of Flavor of Love—he is the darling of VH1. Go figure.

Oh, and by the way, he picked “Deelishis” in the final episode.

Tom Sizemore, Andrew Dice Clay Reality Shows on VH1

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Reality, Internet,

VH1 Logo Those of you dying to see the next screw-ups on their own reality show won’t have to wait much longer. VH1 announced that two reality shows will focus on a couple of has-beens working on their comebacks. I’m sure you’re chomping at the bit to see what Andrew Dice Clay and Tom Sizemore have been up to. I’m all for comeback stories, but these two don’t seem to bring much to the table. You may remember crude Clay in the 1980s—he of the stand-up featuring dirty Mother Goose rhymes (“Little Boy Blue. He needed the money.”), movie roles and even his own sitcom. Where has he been since then? Look no further than the latest reality show to answer that question. His series will follow his current career as author, Sirius satellite radio show producer, and his jump back into a comedy CD. The series will premiere on VH1 in March and will provide a behind-the-scenes glimpse of him touring and dealing with parenting and relationship issues.

Sizemore, on the other hand, had a credible film career, which slowly fell apart with his sex and drug addictions, conviction for assault and battery against “Hollywood Madam” Heidi Fleiss, and sex tape plastered on the Internet. Sizemore’s reality show will take a look at his climb back up the acting ladder, as he goes on jobs and films a BBC movie in Canada. To fill in his story, his own flashback footage of his sex and drug days will probably provide more info than you wanted to know. No word yet on when Sizemore’s show will air.
