At the top of the spectacular, host Ryan Seacrest immediately introduced the President of the United States and his First Lady, Mr. and Mrs. Barack Obama. Two praised the Idol Gives Back event and urged viewers to contribute to the cause. In his typical contemporary fashion, President Obama then gave a message to the Idol contestants: “As Randy Jackson says, you’re all my dogs.”

Ryan then reappeared on stage to introduce the judges and hype up the crowd. served as the host of the event at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, which was filled with a screaming crowd.

The Top 12 were brought back together for the first group performance of the night, an incredibly weak number. The only big moment in the song was given (predictably) to Crystal Bowersox. Could this show please make it more obvious that they want her to win? I’m not sure the astronauts on the space shuttle have managed to get the message yet - they’re so far away, and all.

Conan O’Brien Finds a New Home on TBS

UPDATE: Turner Entertainment Networks President Steve Koonin says “[Conan] can do whatever he wants to do” on TBS.

Conan O’Brien’s going to have a lot to talk about when he kicks off his road tour tonight.

Despite many assumptions that the former Tonight Show host would eventually form a new home at FOX, the comedian has decided to take show to cable. Come this November, O’Brien will become the new face of TBS.

The new late night program will air at 11:00, a decision that - who will see his show Lopez Tonight moved to midnight - is perfectly fine with. In fact, Lopez personally called O’Brien to assure him of that. “I can’t think of anything better than doing my show with Conan as my lead-in,” Lopez assured fans. “It’s the beginning of a new era in late-night comedy.”

Fore! Another Hit for the Golf Channel

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Games, Reality, Sports, Cable, Gossip, Renewals,

Golf Ball Honestly, I didn’t know the channel existed. Even more, I didn’t know the Golf Channel is chock-full of reality shows, like The Big Break (currently celebrating several successful seasons). So it was with a dubious eye that I watched the brand-new Fore Inventors Only, a show hosted by Golf Channel alum Vince Cellini. For the past few weeks, each Tuesday at 10 pm I’ve found myself tuning in. First it was a little bit of a freak show – auditioning before a panel in an -esque set up, would-be inventors paraded their golfing devices in hopes of finding fame and acclaim. Some of these inventions were unwieldy, some silly, some totally nonsensical. But a few – okay, something like forty – made it through round one. And, before I knew what was happening, I was hooked. On a show that’s on the Golf Channel. Go figure.

Lost Moves to New Time

Lost Bad news for those of us who have an early bedtime. Starting in February, when Lost returns, it will be moving from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The move could potentially assist ABC with the difficulty it has had finding a show that retains a significant audience with Lost as the lead-in. By moving Lost to 10 p.m., the network can lead with a block of comedy and increase viewership with the 10:00 slot. Beginning on January 3rd, According to Jim will air at 8:00 and 8:30 p.m., followed by two new series, The Knights of Prosperity and In Case of Emergency. On January 24th, the night will lead with George Lopez, then According to Jim, Knights, and Emergency. The move also takes Lost out of competition with American Idol (which begins January 17th) and Criminal Minds (that just won the post-Super Bowl airing). It will be interesting to see how the comedy block ABC has lined up will fare against the tough competition. Lost returns on February 7th.
