Anna Nicole Smith Dead at Age 39

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: News,

Anna Nicole Smith Soon after news broke that Anna Nicole Smith had collapsed in a Florida hotel, it was reported that the tabloid favorite had died. Smith, who was born Vickie Lynn Hogan, first became famous for her Guess jeans ads and Playboy centerfold spread. Later, she provided a steady stream of tabloid material when she married an 89-year-old oil tycoon. She remained in the spotlight as the legal battle for his fortune continued. At one point, she had her own reality show on E! and continued to appear in tabloids for her growing waistline. The recent death of her 20-year-old son, birth of her new daughter, and question over the father of her child all contributed a great deal of stress to the bubbly blond. Just days ago, it was announced that Smith would be sued for her role as spokeswoman for the TrimSpa weight-loss supplement. She was found in her hotel room at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel this afternoon, and passed away shortly thereafter. The cause of death is under investigation, with an autopsy scheduled for Friday.

It’s a Baby Girl for Brooke Burke

Brooke Burke, Dave Navarro Brooke Burke, host of Rock Star: Supernova, and actor David Charvet welcomed baby girl Heaven Rain Charvet into the world on January 8th. Burke’s publicist, Nancy Iannios, said of the delivery, “Everything went well with the delivery, and Rain looks just like her mother.” This is the third girl for Burke, 35, and the first for the couple. Heaven joins sisters Neriah, 6, and Sierra Sky, 4 (their father is Burke’s first husband, Garth Fisher, a plastic surgeon).

Charvet is best known for roles on Baywatch and Melrose Place. Prior to Rock Star, Burke was a model and host of the E! network’s Wild On... series from 1999 to 2002. The couple were engaged in August and are planning a spring 2007 wedding.

The Girls Next Door Renewed for Third Season

The Girls Next Door E! has really hit the jackpot with The Girls Next Door—the show that chronicles Hugh Hefner and his three girlfriends. Oh the fun they have at that Playboy Mansion. But don’t any of them think it’s weird? I mean, the guy has three girlfriends. Why? Because he’s Hef! Hey girls—in case you haven’t noticed, the dude is old. But I guess his riches have clouded their vision. Sigh.

Anyway, E! has ordered a third season of the reality series, with the first episode anticipated for the spring. The show has proven to be a hit, with the second season premiere clocking in as E!s highest-rated original program since 2003. The second season opener gained 1.63 million viewers. I’ll admit it, I’m one of them. I’m not a regular watcher, but if I happen to flip by, I’ll give it a look. I just can’t get over it—3 girls, 1 old guy. What the heck?

Nicole Richie—Too Thin?

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Reality, Cable, Cable/Satellite, Rumors,

Nicole RichieFinally, Nicole Richie is doing something about her shrinking size. The ultra-skinny co-star of The Simple Life is now looking for help—her publicist told E! News that Richie has gone to a facility “to undergo diagnostic treatment to determine why she’s not been putting on any weight.” The rep further said, “She is working with a team of doctors and specialists whose focus is nutrition. It is important to Nicole that she achieve this goal in a healthy way, [but] this is not a treatment for an eating disorder.” For now, production of The Simple Life is on hold. Her weight has been of question lately—her response was that it was due to the stress of her breakup with Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein.

Last month, Richie responded to a CNN report that she was seeking treatment for anorexia, saying “Contrary to CNN’s false accusations, I did not check myself into an eating disorder rehab… I do not have an eating disorder, and I don’t know how many times I have to say it.” She also spoke out on the Tyra Banks Show, once again denying any eating disorder.

Paris and Nicole Together Again?

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Reality, Cable, Cable/Satellite, News, Rumors,

Paris and NicoleJust in case her nightclub brawl with Shanna Moakler didn’t thrust her into the spotlight enough, Paris Hilton is yet again making news with a possible reconciliation with ex-best bud Nicole Richie. The once inseparable The Simple Life co-stars had a break-up of sorts that drove a wedge between them, even impacting their most recent season of The Simple Life, where they were never in the same place at the same time.

E! Online is reporting that the two appear to have ended their 18 month spat—they arrived together for dinner at a West Hollywood restaurant on Sunday night, had a sleepover and endured the snapping of the paparazzi to commemorate their get-together. “We are back!” they said before they drove away. Oh goodie. I know you were all so worried about when they would reconcile. We can all sleep better now. Okay, I’m done with the cynicism now.

Cause of Daniel Smith’s Death Identified

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Reality, News,

Anna Nicole Daniel Smith Anna Nicole Smith’s son, Daniel Smith, died unexpectedly on September 10th—just three days after Anna Nicole gave birth to a baby girl. The cause of death was under investigation, and finally the culprit has been identified as methadone. Toxicology tests revealed that the combination of methadone and antidepressants led to Daniel’s death. The toxicology screening was the second attempt at identifying the cause, this time with a privately hired pathologist. The combination of drugs sped up Smith’s heart, leading to his death. The pathologist did not believe his death was a suicide, rather “a tragic, accidental drug-related death.” Methadone is often prescribed as a painkiller, but is also commonly used to help heroin addicts fight their addiction.

In other Anna Nicole news, her attorney, Howard K. Stern, is claiming to be her newborn’s father. This admission came during his interview with CNN’s Larry King Tuesday night.
