The CW Fails to Sell, Continues With Youth

The CW continues to attract youth

Not only do television stations have to deal with battling technology nowadays, but they also have been fighting another war when it comes to selling ads. Unfortunately for the CW, it seems to be losing quite a bit on both fronts, selling nearly 40% less of prime time ads than they did the previous year.

The drop in sales is not merely from the drop in ratings this year (down 23%)—in actuality, it may be largely due to the fact that the troubled station has cut down its programming from 15 to 10 hours a week, eliminating Sunday night from their lineup. Marketing was, however, able to sell 8% more in ad prices compared to last year, solely relying upon its appeal to younger audiences with shows like Gossip Girl, America’s Next Top Model, and the upcoming Beverly Hills 90210 remake. With their break from WWE, the CW will have to pray that more pre-teen girls jump on board to watching their shows to cover the lack of ratings pull Smackdown received.

Beauty And The Geek: ‘It’s Good To Be King”

Beauty and the GeekThe contestants of Beauty and the Geek came one step closer to fulfilling the transformation that this social experiment strives for. Although tonight’s ever-popular “makeover” episode left something to be desired.

Tonight’s episode began with the return of Jesse and Erin from the elimination room. Last week they knocked off the powerhouse team of Will and Rebecca. Man-beauty Sam eagerly awaited the return of the winning team and hoped that it would be his love-muffin Rebecca walking through the door. Now, last week I had a lot of unflattering things to say about Sam. I will admit, however, that my thoughts on Sam have changed a lot since the last episode. So read on after the break to find out why. As was expected, everybody but Sam was happy to see Jesse and Erin enter the room and everyone celebrated with hugs and boisterous talking.

When Reality Stars Procreate

Jonny FairplayOK, this one just baffles me. Survivor: Pearl Island contestant Jonny Fairplay and girlfriend Michelle Deighton of America’s Next Top Model are expecting. A baby. Together. That is not to say that normal folk can’t have a love child with a model—I’m just baffled that anyone would find Fairplay attractive enough to want to have his baby. This is the guy who lied about his grandma dying while he was a contestant on Survivor just to get further in the game. A real stand up guy, right? The two have apparently been dating for two years while Fairplay (aka Jon Dalton) continues to s-t-r-e-t-c-h his 15 minutes of fame by wrestling (huh? you read that right) and appearing on CMT’s Ty Murray’s Celebrity Bull Riding Challenge. Deighton didn’t make it very far in the fourth season of Top Model, where she contracted some kind of skin disease which sent the models into a tizzy because they had shared makeup with Deighton (it ended up being impetigo). She too has appeared on WWE Friday Night Smackdown. According to TMZ.com, Deighton is 17 weeks pregnant.
