Glee Makes Music with Duets Episode

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, FOX, Video,

Glee was little more somber , but the show balanced it out with plenty of fun on last night’s “Duets” episode. Not only did we get two Finn and Rachel numbers, we saw sparks fly between a new potential romantic pairing…and, we delved a little deeper into one of our new favorites: Brittany Pearce.

Did you see it? Do you want to re-hash it? Check out the full spoiler alert after the jump.

Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) kicked the episode off right by announcing a new competition for pairs: two free dinners at everyone’s favorite restaurant, Breadsticks. Each twosome would sing a duet in order to win the big prize. This, of course, led to some major shake-ups within the club.

The big news of the night: That Brittany has deep feelings? The new couple which may or may not be blossoming within the club? The fact that we’re pretty sure Rachel (Lea Michele) is up to something devious? No, it’s Mark Salling. Will unceremoniously announced that Puck has been detained “indefinitely” in Juvenile Detention … and we can only wonder if it means he’s off the show for good. So far, no word on his future.

Lacking her usual make-out partner Puck, Santana (Naya Rivera) ran straight to Brittany for some girl-on-girl kisses. When Brit suggested the two sing a duet together—“Come to My Window”—Santana rebelled. She does, after all, have a rep to protect. Instead, Santana approached Mercedes (Amber Riley) about performing a duet—and they were sensational!

Brittany (Heather Morris) looked for revenge in the form of Artie (Kevin McHale), who was immediately receptive to her proposal of a relationship. The two began working on their duet together … and much, much more.

Meanwhile, Sam Evans (Chord Overstreet) has officially joined the Glee club - and he’s got the slushie moment to prove it. Sam initially agreed to do a duet with Kurt (Chris Colfer), who was interested because he’s convinced Sam is gay. After a heart-to-heart with his father, who is recovering from last week’s illness, Kurt released Sam from his verbal duet contract. Instead, Sam performed a touchingly sweet duet with Quinn Fabray (Dianna Agron) and the two enjoyed a rather romantic first date with their Breadsticks win.

Mike Chang and Tina (Harry Shum, Jr. and Jenna Urshkowitz) performed the most adorable duet of the night, filled with great dancing. The song choice - which highlighted the fact that Mike can’t really sing - was absolutely perfect, and showed off both their best talents well.

Finn and Rachel practiced a perfect duet together—“Don’t Go Breakin’ My Heart”—but changed their song when Rachel decided they just had to throw the competition so Sam could win. Instead, they performed a horribly tacky number that left the rest of the club gasping. What’s Rachel’s real motive, here? One wonders…

Artie and Brittany didn’t perform together after all. After they had sex together, Santana revealed to Artie that Brit was using him all along. When Brit couldn’t deny it, Artie let her have it—and we got to see that underneath that thick (very thick) exterior, Brittany has a lot of feelings. We saw a glimpse of her in Breadsticks, alone, that was truly heartbreaking.

The episode ended with a rather triumphant duet from Rachel and Kurt, who sang together just for themselves. Their song summed up the feeling of the episode perfectly: “Happy Days Are Here Again.”
