, the iconic blonde star with the never-to-be-forgotten poster, died today in a California hospital. She was 62.

The actress’ death comes after a nearly three-year long health battle. Despite being declared free of anal cancer in early 2007, the disease quickly returned. A recent NBC special documented the star’s quest for alternative treatments.

Although she will most likely be remembered as Jill Munroe, one of the original Charlie’s Angels, Fawcett actually chose to move on from that series after only 22 episodes. (A few more guest appearances followed.) After a few disappointing stabs at a film career, Farrah earned critical praise when she returned to the small screen. It was hoped that Fawcett and longtime love Ryan O’Neal, the father of 24-year-old son Redmond, would have a chance to finally marry before she passed. Unfortunately, that opportunity never came.

“She’s gone. She now belongs to the ages,” O’Neal told People magazine. “She’s now with her mother and sister and her God. I loved her with all my heart. I will miss her so very, very much. She was in and out of consciousness. I talked to her all through the night. I told her how very much I loved her. She’s in a better place now.”

Funeral services will be held in Los Angeles later this week.
