Casting Corner: Lost, Criminal Intent and More

William AthertonMary Elizabeth Mastrantonio

Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:

30 Rock: If James Franco doesn’t watch out, he might start liking this TV thing and never turn back. The Milk star has not only lined up a stint on General Hospital, he will also appear as himself on the Emmy-winning comedy. Although NBC would not confirm the casting, it’s believed James will have a faux celebrity romance with Jenna (Jane Krakowski).

The New Adventures of Old Christine: Looks like Julia Louis-Dreyfus will be getting a new visit from an old visitor. Former love interest Blair Underwood will be returning to the CBS comedy early next year. Could he give Eric McCormack’s character a run for his money? Well, if I had to choose…

90210: I’m not sure if Ryan Matthews has had enough blondes in his life, but he’s about to rack up another one. The L Word‘s Kelly Lynch has just been tapped to play mom to one of the English teacher’s students. She’ll also have a hot fling with the West Beverly staffer. Lynch’s possibly recurring role will begin in January.

Law & Order: Criminal Intent: Another name from the big screen will be joining the revamped series. The Color of Money‘s Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio will be stepping in as the new captain of the squad. Her arrival comes as Eric Bogosian, Vincent D’Onofrio, Julianne Nicholson and Kathryn Erbe all find their way out. Mastrantonio will work alongside Jeff Goldblum and Saffron Burrows on the USA program.

Lost: We loved to hate him in Die Hard and Die Hard 2, so William Atherton should make quite an interesting addition for the show’s finale season. Although Carlton Cuse teased his appearance via Twitter, no other details about William’s character have been revealed. Natch.

24: If there’s anything we’ve learned from President Barack Obama, it’s that we could always use help from a former president. To help get through Season 8 of 24, President Allison Taylor (Cherry Jones) will call upon a previous POTUS: Charles Logan. Although Logan (Gregory Itzin) didn’t exactly leave the office on good terms, he’s apparently useful during a diplomatic crisis. He’s also good for the ratings.

Modern Family: The freshman hit is only weeks old, but it’s already got celebrity backing. Edward Norton has already taped a cameo for the program, now two other movie stars are booking their gigs. Zack and Miri‘s Elizabeth Banks will be featured as a longtime friend of new parents Cam and Mitchell while The Usual Suspect‘s Chazz Palminteri will guest on a different episode as a friend of Jay Pritchett (Ed O’Neill).
