American Idol Contestant Reveals Editing Secrets

The show is over and the winner has been crowned, but there’s still plenty to talk about. American Idol’s fifth-place Season 9 finisher revealed a few behind-the-scenes secrets during a recent
interview, and we’ve got the details.
Aaron Kelly was very forthcoming in his Idolatry interview with Entertainment Weekly, spilling a few of the secrets the show doesn’t necessarily want you to think about. During the early weeks of the show, Kelly was depicted as forgetting his lyrics during a Hollywood Week performance. Here’s the rub: it never happened.
“I didn’t forget the lyrics,” Kelly explained. “That’s how they…how they set it up,” he said. Editing magic at work.

Aaron Kelly also confirmed what numerous contestants have said in the past - Idol offers very small song lists. He said there were times when the contestants had as few as 12 songs to choose from.
