Leslie NielsenIt’s so great to hear that Leslie Nielsen will be returning to television in a regular role—that hasn’t happened since Police Squad! in 1982. Nielsen has had his fair share of TV guest appearances, and is likely best remembered for the Airplane and Naked Gun films, as well as his role in the Scary Movie films. Nielsen will be joining the NBC comedy pilot Lipshitz Saves the World, playing mentor to Lipshitz, the teenager who discovers he is the “one” to save the planet. Series writer Dan Fogelman wrote the part with Nielsen in mind, saying “I’m a lifelong fan and wrote the part specifically for him, never having met him, and with no knowledge of whether or not he’d take to it.” Fogelman has some writing chops, having co-written the Pixar film Cars and created a sitcom for the WB.
