This Week on TV (9/27-10/3)

(Make sure to check out TV Envy’s Programming Schedule.)

MONDAY (9/27)
  • House (FOX, 8 p.m.):  “House and Cuddy confront the workplace ramifications of their relationship.” If the show tanks after this pairing, it’s all on them.
  • Hoarders (A&E, 10 p.m.):  “A teacher takes her hoarding lifestyle into the classroom.” Some call that hoarding, others call that an oversized class.
  • Weeds (Showtime, 10 p.m.):  “To retrieve her kidnapped son, Nancy has a showdown with Cesar in a Skee-Ball museum.” The one with the most Chuck E. Cheese tickets in the end wins.

Coupon Surfer Challenges Rush Limbaugh to use Internet Coupons

Posted by Finnian Durkan Categories: Internet,

Last week Rush Limbaugh admitted that he had never clipped a coupon in his entire life.  This week CouponSurfer has challenged him to use their coupon site to clip his first-ever coupon.  Based upon market studies and tons of compiled data, I have come to the conclusion that Rush is going to be disappointed in couponsurfer.com’s performance in this arena; nowhere in the entire internets did I find coupons for ‘blood of 1,000 virgins’ or ‘Oxycotin.’

Sneak Listen: Controversial Family Guy Abortion Episode

The cast gathered recently for a live table read of the upcoming abortion issue, which has already made headlines in the media. So, did FOX’s animated prime time comedy tread very carefully around this hot-button issue? If you’ve got to ask, you just aren’t familiar with the show.

The episode, “Partial Terms of Endearment,” features a plot in which Lois Griffin (wife to title character Peter) becomes a surrogate mother for two friends. The couple goes on to die in a car accident, leaving Lois to ponder of the mysteries of life and possible abortion for the fetus she’s carrying. This story installment wouldn’t be dubbed “the abortion episode” if it didn’t feature Lois at least considering all her options.

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Humor, Videos,

If you haven’t seen this one yet, be ready to laugh. Wanda Sykes kicked things off at the annual White House Correspondents Dinner last night with a comedy set that roasted , former President George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, , and many others. Heck, she even took Rush Limbaugh to task for saying that the hopes Obama fails, which Sykes said was outright “treason.”

The event was attended by many politicians, as well as celebrities like , , , , and more.

This Week on TV (12/1-12/7)

Barbara Walters and Tom Cruise

(You can view TV Envy’s Master Programming Schedule here.)

MONDAY 12/1)
  • Shrek the Halls (ABC, 8pm): Hopefully this Mike Myers laugher will help us all forget The Love Guru.
  • Inside the Actor’s Studio (Bravo, 8pm):  “Daniel Radcliffe, star of the Harry Potter film franchise, charts his career journey.” I’m not sure I want to see James Lipton enthusiastically talking about Radcliffe’s nude Broadway performance.
  • Heroes (NBC, 9pm):  “Ando, Sam and Frack try to restore Hiro’s memory with a comic book.” Any person trying to follow this series should be given an instruction manual.
  • Boston Legal (ABC, 10pm):  “When Denny receives bad news about the state of his Alzheimer’s, Alan goes before the Massachusetts Supreme Court to plead for access to an experimental drug that can help his condition.” Alzheimers? Maybe Shatner simply forgot why George Takei dislikes him so.

The Truth About Thanksgiving

Posted by Sal Traina Categories: Editorials, History,

I just wanted to take the time to thank everyone for coming here and reading our blogs. I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving.

I wanted to share with everyone, the real story of Thanksgiving. Our schools like to teach us that early settlers came here and like savages, killed every native, raped and pillaged, and spread disease and famine to this land. That’s not the case.

Can We Expect a Return of the Fairness Doctrine?

Posted by Cynthia Guenthner Categories: Media,

Radio Tower

Following the Democrats’ capturing the White House and gaining 6 seats in the Senate and 19 in the House, there’s a good possibility we’ll see a revival of the so-called “Fairness Doctrine.” Sal alluded to this in one of his blogs, and I’d like to further elaborate.

From 1949-1987, the Fairness Doctrine ruled the broadcast industry. It was originally designed to ensure a “balance” of opinions over the airwaves when only three or four major networks dominated radio and the medium of television was still in its infancy. By the time the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), during the Reagan administration, abolished the Doctrine, cable and satellite TV had offered competitive alternatives to the big broadcast networks.
