What are the Palin Baby Photos Worth?

DescriptionTripp Easton Mitchell Johnston, first grandbaby for Governor (and former VIP candidate) , entered the world on December 28, 2008. Now, let’s find out just how much clout this youngster has with the tabloids, shall we?

Palin, who emerged from nowhere at the GOP convention and rose to instant stardom, has managed to stay on the radar even though we’re several weeks away from November. Everyone seems interested in the Alaska Governor’s next TV project (we’re all quite sure there will be one), but for now the politician is working on a different role: Grandma.

A role which, if you’re Sarah Palin, may not be without its huge monetary perks. Technically, the money will likely go to daughter Bristol and her boyfriend Levi Johnston - but we all know who’s name is going to sell the cover shots.

The bidding war for the first photos of little Tripp has begun, and some sources are claiming the price started as high as $100,000. That’s more than some real celebrities get - and the number’s only getting higher from there. No price for the pics has been confirmed, but some sources estimate the photos are selling for more than $300,000 - truly, a staggering sum for a child that’s probably still wrinkled and hairless.

Pain at the Gas Pump

Posted by George Regal Categories: Business, US Economy,

The real price of gas

This issue was displaced somewhat by the current economic news, but it is still near and dear to our hearts because we feel it everyday!  What’s behind it?  If you’re tuning into the cable news channels you’ve probably heard that it’s greedy oil companies, speculators (an upcoming topic), increased demand in India and China, or because we restrict drilling. Well, which is it?

As much as I hate to ruin a good myth, and this one is a gem, it’s none of the above.  Going back to my column on the Federal Reserve, we see that the FED lowered interest rates, and by keeping them there, money poured into the economy. Again, what happens when there are more dollars competing for the same number of (or, close to it) goods and services? Yep, prices rise.  Gas prices have risen drastically, because oil prices have risen drastically, because the Federal Reserve has increased the money supply drastically

No Love for Courtney

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Legal Issues, Breaking News,

Put-Description-Here, movie star, singer and widow of famous rocker Kurt Cobain, is being sued for failing to provide a percentage of her earnings from Nirvana’s publishing rights.

According to the five-page suit filed against Love, she entered into an oral agreement to pay 5% of her $19.5 million take - $975,000 to be exact.

The firm, London & Co., did not make it clear in the suit when Love sold these rights off. The paperwork could refer to an April 2006 agreement in which Courtney sold 25% of her Nirvana assets to Larry Mestel, a former executive at Virgin Records and founder of Primary Wave Music Publishing. Love’s 25% portion of Nirvana rights, by the way, was larger than the combined assets of Nirvana members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic.

No one from Love’s camp has commented on the suit thus far. When died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in 1994, Love became the heir to 98% of the rights for Nirvana.

Family Guy’s Fate on FOX

Family GuyHome of the nation’s number one show, 20th Century Fox will soon be paying one of their writer/producers one of the biggest salaries in TV. Here’s the twist: that person doesn’t work on .

Seth MacFarlane, creator of and American Dad, will become the best-paid writer/producer on TV thanks to his new contract. The agreement ensures that Family Guy will remain on the air until 2012, but it also covers a few other projects still in the till. Under the terms of the contract, MacFarlane will continue to pen episodes of American Dad as well as The Cleveland Show (a planned Family Guy spinoff). “I get a lot of pleasure out of making show,” said MacFarlane to the press. “It’s a bonus to get getting paid well for it, and it’s a double bonus to be getting paid exorbitantly for it.” The amount in question remains undisclosed, though it is expected to soar above the $60 million, five-year contract offered to J.J. Abrams (Lost) in 2006.

J.K. Rowling’s Testimony

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Breaking News,

J. K. Rowling, arguably one of the most successful writers ever to walk the Earth, recently took the stand against Steve Vander Ark to argue about Harry Potter, arguably one of the most successful series of books ever penned. A lot of people have made a lot of money off of Harry Potter - including these two. So what could they possibly be arguing about?

Ark signed a deal with RDR Books to publish a reference manual dubbed “The Harry Potter Lexicon,” based on the Web site of the same name. And boy, is Rowling pissed about it. The novelist said she’s had to cease working on her new book due to stress, and that the problems of this lawsuit (and there is one, by the way) have “decimated my creative work over the past month.”
