Mariah Carey has finally decided that the time is right.

In an interview to air tonight on Access Hollywood, the singer reveals to Billy Bush that she is indeed expecting her first child with hubby Nick Cannon.

“Yes, we are pregnant, this is true!” Carey states. “It’s been a long journey. It’s been tough because I’ve been trying to hold on to a shred of privacy.”

“At this point, there is no choice. I either talk or I hibernate,” she added.

Although many wonder why it’s taken her so long to confirm the rumors, it turns out she had good reason to be hesitant. Nick and Mariah were preparing to announce a pregnancy about two years ago when they found out they had lost the baby.

“It kind of shook us both and took us into a place that was really dark and difficult,” Mariah admitted. “When that happened … I wasn’t able to even talk to anybody about it. That was not easy."

The tragic event did have a positive effect on Carey and Cannon’s marriage. “It definitely brought us closer together,” Nick told Billy. “It strengthened our relationship so much … She handled it so well.”

Although the two have now publicly disclosed their parenting news, there are some details that will remain private … for now. The 41-year-old singer, who opted not to disclose her due date, said: "It's still early. We’re still … expecting in the spring. I’ll say that.”
